Just bought my spot messenger, easy to set up and use, great bit of kit but maybe a bit late after 70000kms of travelling around. Off on some 4x4 tracks soon so will log the routes and post.

I have a generation Spot 1 and it works fine. The latest ones look to be more user friendly...

I want one, but am struggling to justify it for the once a year trip to Portugal !

I also carry mine when ski mountaineering or sea kayaking, so worth it just in case things go wrong for me

How does it work? How do you use it, in practical terms?
Costs? Dependencies?

My buddy has one - I was able to follow his progress around Tunisia, it updates every 15mins on a google map - it was so upto date I found myself zooming in on the map expecting to be able to see him!
