Arrived in lakes after driving over breast high road and then along old coach rd for an overnight camp, should be seeing some land cruisers soon who are in another group.

Hilux much better over breast high rd with lift and proper tyres.

Nice to meet in person Andy.

I have a few photos but only taken on the iPhone so not great.

I've plopped a few on FB as its dead easy from the phone where the crappy snaps have been taken from... will try again through tapatalk but it didn't go well last attempt [emoji12]

time to continue the trip report :icon-cool: - it continued onto Yorkshire dales, then peak district, then North York moors, then back to Dales for more lane and Tour de France spectating

sooo..
the next morning we continued along the Old Coach Road 1km from our camp and met Gav, Jon, Gary, Karl & Ray packing up and having breakfast. There group was big enough already. So after chatting, we contined solo in our Hilux

and thats it folks
Hilux did well, but not quite as capable as the 95-series was, the rear-locker is a bit easier to use on tricky stuff - until i understand the Traction control better anyway, and the 95-series had better axle articulation

BUT when i drove LC on the same lakes lanes i had dropped tyre pressures to 25ish PSI, this time on Hilux i kept the tyres at 35PSI
so maybe comparison isn't so fair :)
but I am enjoying the increased power in the D4D hilux, much more storage space to get bikes in and kit etc, and cruise control

Andy, I see your tablet is tethered....Vodabone by any chance?

Great write-up Andy, lovely to see the lakes again. Does anyone know if the steamer is still running on Ullswater? I used to drink with the pilot many moons ago in the Pooley Bridge Inn when I used to sailing up there.

Yep, saw the boat on ullswater on first evening. We went for walk then stopped at a pub before going onto old coach road.

Sorry Andy. :icon-sad:

Couldn't resist. Great pics, good story. Shame about the damage.

Great pics and write up. Some really good lanes, I like getting out across the moors and dales. Good view of the tdf going past.

Off topic but....How does the tablet handle memory map? Looking at a 10 inch Galaxy tab to replace my laptop.

Not that worried about the scrapes Chris, not a metal part

Gary the tablet is a galaxy tab and wifi only, it is running Oziexplorer and copes fine with that. I use an iPad mini for other apps and browsing as it's faster and has a cellular data option. You can't get oziexplorer on ipad though, and I have lots of maps for ozi.

Looks good!

Interesting to see that the TdF route went up Blubberhouses; I used to paddle on the Washburn when I was in the North West.

On the subject of memory map and tablets; I run it on my Nexus 7 over here in Australia without any problems. The bit that has taken time to work out is how to transfer my waypoints from the computer to the tablet. Now that I have that sorted, I'm all good again.

Andy, do you have an external GPS source for the Galaxy then? Or simply use the internal GPS... If that works well I may well look to get the OziExplorer as running my carputer off an inverter kills the battery very quickly :-(

Great pics - thanks for sharing the pics; great trip :)

And glad Jet is enjoying Fidge's chicken, at least whats left of it!!!

Cheers

Glad it's still operating, but it would be stupid of me to think it had the same pilot, he'd be in his 90s or pushing up daisies by now!
