No it isn't. The 4x4 mechanism on this vehicle is one of he finest ever devised. Don't mess with it. Running in two wheel drive has been tried (I've tried it actually with no front prop, no diff and no half shafts in and my consumption actually went up. It wasn't nice to drive either. It's nothing to do with going off road, it's about on road grip and handling and power delivery.
