I finally got around to removing my seized VC. ...

Twas a straight forward job, and a lot easier than I sort of guessed it might be.. ..

the worst bit was getting the curclip out. ..... and that took longer than it did to remove all the 14mm bolts and undo the 3 plugs.

anyway .... anyone know what oil the transfer case takes, .. assuming it's filled to a smidgin below the fill plug.

And here's me planning to put one back in. Have to swap the housing of course. And the prop. Very clean in there I have to say. I had issues with one of mine and it was red inside. Stained with Lincomb sand. Never found where it got in but it made a real mess. That looks like it's been steam cleaned.

Do you mean how much oil? Type is 75/90 and I fill til it runs out but the book says 1.7 litres but yours will take a bit more now you don't have the VC in there.

Are you planning on discarding the VC if it's faulty? If so why not open it up and post some pics assuming it can be dismantled of course. I'm curious as to whats actually in there for such a small (and very expensive) unit.

Cheers Chris .... nope that's not been cleaned at all ... I meant what type oil ... (so your reply of 75/90 is what I was after) ..

Towpack ..... I will try to get it open and post some pics of the inside .... (may take a while though)

this is the other bit ....

..

sorry it's not very clear ...

It's very clear to me you have not been changing your oil every 24,000 miles as the book says :icon-biggrin:. Do your front axle QUICK.
