Suspension nightmare

Readers familiar with my previous post will know that my recent MOT diagnosed a need for new shock absorbers. I decided yesterday that I would replace all four shocks with standard shocks rather than buy the LC5 spec electronically adjustable shocks. I was in touch with a helpful chap at Pedders, suspension specialists. They do a full suspension replacement kit including shocks or you can just buy the shocks on their own.

This morning I thought I would double check that the height adjustable suspension system was working ok as I couldn't recall hearing it recently (there is a whirring noise as it raises up and down normally). I had a fiddle with the switches and couldn't hear the usual whirring as the suspension raises up or down.....hmm

Anyway, I drove to work in my Merc leaving my wife to use the LC.

She has just phoned me from the school run, reporting terrible banging noises from the suspension even with the height control on neutral. God knows what I have done. This sounds to me like I need the full suspension replacement kit from Pedders, not just the shocks. Will need to get the wife home as well!

As a follow-up to the above post, I decided to order the full LC5 replacement suspension kit from Pedders UK which was approx £700. Chap from Pedders (Roger) very helpful. Took 2.5 weeks to arrive from Oz. Have now fitted the above (£300), having removed the original air bags and suspension set-up. So we are all sorted now.

Immediate thoughts are that the set up is a little firmer than the factory air suspension set-up (when set on the middle setting) which is no bad thing. All of the struts, springs etc are bright red so I can see that nestling under the wheel arches, again no bad thing. Only thing my mechanic couldn't fit which came with the kit were new bump stops because he said he would have to drill the chassis to get the old ones off. Not sure why - I will need to ask.

Anyway, that's my story for anyone else in a similar predicament.

Good to hear its all fitted and working. But yes, i think you should ask. Currently you have no effective bump stop fitted at the rear which is not ideal. I cant quite make out what he means from your description, but the instructions have the details on what should be done. Please let me know if i can be of any further help.
