All new to me, maybe simple task as I have no idea but how do I up the boost on my 1kz-t any pics/diagrams?? And where do I adjust it?? Many thanks

No settings as such unless you buy a manual boost controller , you can up the boost a little by putting 2mm washers behind the turbo actuator bolts which in effect shortens your actuator arm so more pressure is required to open the wastegate .

Ok then is it worth doing? Or shall just increase fuel on the pump?

Absolutely definitely and certainly your truck probably boosts now about 6 or 7 psi , i was happy with the results of the washer mod until i decided to buy a turbosmart controller . With the controller came a boost gauge which told me the washer mod gave me 10 psi of boost but that will vary from truck to truck depending on how tired the actuator is . But when i fitted the controller without increasing boost over 10 i felt the improvement instantly because it eliminates wastegate creep .

Whichever you chose to do will show an improvement , washer mod is tuppence expense but the 70ish quid i paid for the controller and gauge was money well spent .

Shayne, do you have a pic showing where the washers go?

I'm keen to do that on mine. :icon-twisted:

Craig, winding the fuel pump up a bit also makes a huge difference. :icon-wink:

It's actually very simple Ben but a pic is worth a thousand words so take a look at this which has nothing to do with us because out actuators aren't adjustable but it does allow for easy explanation .

This one appears to have one big washer/spacer between the actuator and the bracket , the washer mod just does the same . I bottled out of removing the lower nut for fear i wouldn't get my mitts in there to put it back on and so made a slip on spacer instead .

If you want more out of your 1KZ search the forum for "Digital Tuning Devices" a thread i started while wondering why mechanical mods can't give is the same power output as plug in tuning chips , pretty much my whole learning curve is on there including upping the fuel and boost .

Guessing here, as I don't have this truck or engine, it sounds like it is electronic with an ECU? If this is the case - why not just get a remap? I know a very good remapper.

I asked a couple of specialists about a remap early on and the both said no chance , I believe Stu had a mate working on an ECU modification and remap but by the time this option presented itself i felt my truck was too far removed from standard performance figures to benefit from blind tuning .

To those who want to do the washer mod, I would really advise doing the boost controller mod instead. Yes, the washer mod will cost you next to nothing, other than the pain to actually do the job. But the boost controller is far more advance and for less than 50 quid, you can't go wrong. You'll be able to adjust and dial in the boost more accurately. I'm actually looking into a GFB Electronic boost controller that is more advance and lets you tweak how fast the boost comes on and stable it is.

Right I'm puzzled I can see the fuel adjustment screw but how do I get any sort of tool in there to adjust as it's so tight and every thing is in the way lol and ideas?? Many thanks

If so the screw is hidden under a steel cap , pull the cap with pliers its not threaded to reveal a 6mm nut/screw surrounded by i think its a 12mm locking nut . Undo the locknut , mark where the small screw/nut sits so you can always go back to factory settings should you chose (wish i had) and turn the 6mm a quarter turn . Locknut back on and take it for a spin . I have gone up a full turn on the screw while experimenting but now all mods have sort of gelled i have reverted to a quarter turn over standard , or at least i think i have but i didn't mark it

I have no idea why you would struggle for space if we are talking about the same screw i use normal sockets on a screwdriver ?

I've not got electric pump I've got mechanical isit different??

Cut a head of a bolt, and put that in the hose to the wastegate instead, that way it will neer work, and you'll be doing around 1.5 bar of pressure.
Also, turn in the fuel pump screw 2 full turns, and it'll go like a rocket. Will smoke some until you hit boost though!

I have it like that in my 2l-t and it runs pretty good i must say! I'm even thinking of going half a turn more :icon-twisted:

Yes different so i can't help i'm afraid sorry .

Good for you Victor  unfortunately its not an option on the 1kz-TE because the ecu will recognize it as a problem and cut the fuel , or at least that's what i believe . Converting to a mechanical pump is a popular mod for that same reason .

So as I have mechanical pump as standard how do I get to the screw properly?? As people have done in the past I'd really like to crank it in a bit :)

Done the fuel one and half turns then the red light came on on the turbo when booting It so then undone the turbo actuator then put a 3mm washer between the bracket and actuator then bolted back up.....
took ok it up the road it revs and goes so much smother no red light so problem solved lol

also had to turn tick over down on the adjuster arm
