I'm thinking of getting my injectors tested and serviced as its a bit smoky and smelly
I had a chat to a few local diesel specialists, worse case if they need new nozzles the cost would be £75/£100 each, but they all said most don't need nozzles will I be that lucky??
The I will need to buy new seats a O rings so looking a quite a few quid to do the job
So my next question is there any thing I need to know about removing them. TBH they do look very simple and agricultural
Thanks David

Won't necessarily stop it smoking , i did mine & it made no difference, i lie it made it louder.

Hi David, I've just pulled mine over the weekend after taking the truck to S&S Diesels in Bishops Waltham near Southampton, where they diagnosed a slight misfire. I'm going there tomorrow with my injectors. They quoted me £2.50 each to test them and £35 to £75 to service them depending on what's needed. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Just ordered the lower copper sealing washers from Toy at £25 or so for all 6. There are O rings, but to be honest, all they do is keep the crap and moisture from falling down around the injector and any O ring that'll take the temperature will do, especially as Toy want another £25 or so for them (no thanks). They are 2.5mm section x 18mm Internal diameter. Mine are crispy and will need replacing!!

Injectors look like this:

They 'pull' out but I needed to use a pry bar like this:

And some grips to turn them round once loosened. They take a bit of shifting but that pry bar was the tool under the connection and against the adjacent cylinder head bolt with a few hits with the heal of my hand.

Before undoing anything, clean the area around the fuel nut scrupulously and don't let the tiniest bit of dirt get in anything where the fuel goes in. I cut some clean plastic bags into squares and slipped an o ring over the ends of the pipes like this:

S&S gave me some caps like you see on the injector but they were a tad big for the pipes. I think 8mm should be the right size to slip on. I cannot emphasise enough how clean you need to be around these connections.

When I pulled the injectors, most left the washer behind but one didn't and it looks like this:

I decided to replace the copper washers but they were in pretty good nick. I also numbered the injectors just in case. I also undid and removed the pipe clamps that hold the injection pipes just to give more wiggle room on the pipes.

I'll do an update tomorrow when I've been to see them.

Thanks for that most helpful

Karl sometimes has sets for exchange. The work has all been done, you swap 'em and send him yours back. Job done.

I visited S&S Diesels again today and had the injectors tested along with a scan on our Space Star.

They tested all 6 and found two with fuel dribbling. One was leaking so badly they couldn't test it properly as they suspected I had got dirt in it taking it out despite the precautions. The other 4 were ok but not brilliant. So, booked them in to be reconditioned after being given the price of £75.50 each (all prices plus VAT, BTW). I'm very impressed with these people. They don't say an awful lot but when they do they give the impression that you're in good hands and are very knowledgeable.

Well the old girl is 21 this year so this can be a birthday present!!

Thanks for the update, that's around the price I was quoted

That's why I suggested giving them a call, they are old school and a bit agricultural (in a good way) but they d seem to know their stuff. We have given them all sorts of sh1t to sort out over the years and they usually come up trumps

My copper washers though Simon Holden are £2.31 each +the vat, not bad at all

Diesel Bob in Ribchester is very good and not expensive, recently did mine and they are bang on, came back with all new washer and seals that were needed

I will be using a local firm as recommended by the HGV mechanic next door to our unit, he did tell me the ones to avoid can't beat local knowledge

The O rings you recommended turned up yesterday, and I think 18mm would have been better tbh as the are a little loose. But the go in ok without rolling up so all will be good

I used mine the other day. I know what you mean and thought the same myself, but they fit a treat. I gave mine the merest wipe of brake fluid and they popped in nicely and held so make good contact and allow the injector to be fitted and then turned to line up with the pipe with ease.

Mr Starcruiser
Did you get your injectors done and if so what were the result's

Yes I did David. There's a definite difference though I'm not sure if it was doing the injectors that has done it it sealing threat intake.

Alas I still have the vibration. [emoji30][emoji24][emoji34]

Any improvement in power or economy?

Slight noticeable improvement in power, haven't done an economy check yet.

Just seen the mess the stupid auto correct has made of my last post. It was meant to read …or sealing the air intake…[emoji36][emoji36][emoji37]
