A week to go before we head to Iceland, going to take 5 days to get there and via an overnight ferry to Europe then 48hr crossing from Denmark to Iceland.

Getting excited ;)

Woo hoo. Hope you have a great time. Currently sitting on the terrace at 34 degrees at 19:58 Zulu - what could be better ;)

I struggle when it's over 30degc. And I blacked out in Morocco when it it 45 degrees ...can't cope

When I did this we got a ferry from Aberdeen to the Shetlands and then picked up a Norwegian cruise liner/ferry from there to Iceland via the Orkney's and Faroe Islands. This was a few years ago mind you

Hmmm, yes the Denmark <> faroes <> Iceland ferry used to also stop at Shetland or scrabster on mainland N Scotland a few years ago, not so now....

Jammy bugger.. still want to do this in the next few years.

look forward to your trip report. Have fun.

Been twice now - love Iceland - but... clean your truck really well when you get home - the volcanic ash kills anything that will wear - rubber seals, window winders, door locks.... definitely worth the trip, but I really wish I'd spent time jet washing properly when I got home. No wonder local trucks have a life expectancy of 3-4 years....

Have a great trip, I really enjoyed my trip last year.

4 days into trip and making good progress to Iceland, just passed the Shetland Morning, passing within 1/2 mile of Unst.

It was great to get from Amsterdam to top of Denmark on a single tank of fuel - 650 miles and even then had 15litres of diesel remaining in tank :)
Hilux running well.
Met with Pete and Jo and Carrick of Atlas Overland at Hirtsals. And another couple with Hilux, and other couple in a troopy and the other 3 landrovers.

Ferry crossing has been smooth so the nice food is staying down!

I would so love to do that. But I don't have the dosh to do up the truck as an over lander or fund the trip. I do have a contact over there that runs tours. Fabulous place. Love this video, some of it around the area we visited. The plane is on the south shore which you need a 4x4 to get to. http://youtu.be/_oAD-mOIXcs

If you can't get the above to work (as I can't) just go on YouTube and search Iceland landcruiser Game Of Thrones.

Yeah, the old Dakota plane is on our agenda

Now entering the Fjord at Iceland, unfortunately cloud base down to 200m, to tease us. Due to dock in an hour

It was feeding time at the zoo for breakfast this morning, we just grabbed a tea and watched and laughed at the carnage of grumpy people queuing for food. And when that had subsided got our food stress free.

Faroe Islands were stunning, similar to west coast of Scotland.

Faroes look quite Nordic with really clear air.

Prepare for scenery overload on Iceland. We found after the fourth or fifth breathtaking volcano or mountain range that it gets to be sort of sensory overload and we got a bit numbed to it. Far better to space things out as I expect you will be doing rather than see the whole Golden Circle/ South shore in one day. At least two great waterfalls along the south shore. Make sure you get the larger one before the sun goes off it for good photos (lots of photo opportunities along there with the still waters of the lagoon and huge rock in it).

Did somebody say Dakota

I am debating whether next year I go back to Iceland or Morocco, both are great places…. decisions decisions….

Day one from ferry down to Hofn. Had a nice 2 hr hike to see one of tallest waterfalls in Iceland, chilly breeze last night but caranex helped keep us out of that
