5th Gear Ratio Change suitable for Landcruiser HDJ VDJ 76 78 79

Yep - very nice bit of kit but not sure about the 'gap' though between 4th and the extended 5th for the country lanes ... rather think a 6 speed would be better.. but it does depend how many of us use the motorway extensively for long runs.... I can use the current 5th gear happily on most roads...

Is anyone running an ARB twin wheel carrier with barn doors?

Is this more a question of - how far the wheels on the 'hangers' fold back and therefore how far you can open the rear doors?? I run with twin real wheels on the back - but have the lift up, drop down rear hatches... happy to take a photo of how far the wheels fold back when open,,,

    Koni Shocks

Currently got them on the truck in the picture.... tried high end Fox's - blew one out the top and they didn't honor their warranty - so told them to sod off then and swapped them all out and binned them, put in a temp set - got some very expensive ones from USA - they were crap... went to...

    Portable Ice Maker

Somehow - I don't think buying bags of ice in some regions would be good idea... you never know where the water came from... I know it's not as bad as it used to be and you will have your own karsy on the truck.... The other option... and this might be tad 'out there' .... but some people use...

Sad day fatality - dog run over :-(

I really feel for you - two dogs myself and yes they can be a real pain sometimes but I love them to bits and I've cried like a baby when I had to have our previous two to sleep for different reasons. I've also be devastated if I hit a dog on the road - my wife is very very animal friendly (must...

do I ditch the split rims?

depends what sort of split rims they are - the later ones that are bolted together (Hutchinson) are fine... in fact very expensive.... the steel type split rims - have a very bad write up - even tyre people handle pump ups of tyres in safety cages... look on u tube for examples.... a couple...

Anyone fitted stiffer anti-roll / sway bars?

Yes - I've fitted both front and rear uprated rolls bars (sway bars) - whiteline ones. Having done a fair bit of circuit racing in the past - till I saw the light and went 4x4 - I have a reasonable understanding of suspension requirements - when fully loaded, plus the roof tent etc... the lurch...

    Sad news

Ahhh I'm just a youngster then at 63 ..... but lost two very good friends last year both in their late 50's - it's that 'reminder' that your lifetime is limited that makes you think that you need to do it now rather than later... 83 years old - yep a good lifespan - BUT very sad nevertheless...

    Axle Question 105's - 80's

Nope - those are frigging deadly - seen the U tube 'explosions' and it's really really not nice to be wearing the locating rim as a tooth guard... I mean some of these... http://www.hutchinsoninc.com/CMS/index.php?page=Off-Road-Recreation-Wheels I can use the spare 80 sets on my other truck...

    Axle Question 105's - 80's

Stu Thanks .... if the 105 axle is stronger I'll stick with that - and the 5 bolt hub....I'll 'just have to' look at some of those split rims.... always fancied a set but couldn't justify them as I had an extra set of 6 bolt wheels... Denis

    Axle Question 105's - 80's

All - some questions for axle gurus ...... Landcruiser - 105 to 80's Quick question - the 105 has solid axles same as the 80 - but with 5 stud hubs... is there any other difference?? could I swap bits and bobs off an 80 axle into a 105 axle without a problem... or can I do a complete axle...

Yep - well done - It's not an obvious problem until it happens... and then it's frigging annoying.... thoughts on 80 series colour change..

Lots of places in the world that drab mat green wouldn't be looked at favorably... IMHO - A mat finish is fine - but personally I wouldn't pick green, military, or camo effect colors. Driving through some outback village that has a beef with the local military and you might end up with some...
