    Future Lincomb?

It would be a shame to lose Lincomb as a venue, but interest seems to have fizzled out since the early days. Is there enough interest to keep it going as purely a social meet up, with the woods available for playing if desired, but nothing organised in terms of games or punch challenge? If it's...

I think that's in the passenger side kick panel fuse block Chas, and I *think* they're labelled on the cover.

    Front fog lamp relay

No experience of it, but I believe yes, some form of dash removal is needed to get that panel off and get at the relays on the back. I've never seen any kind of detailed write up of this being done on the internet though, which is a shame. Let us now how you get on.

    Converting a 100 series to 105.

I don't think it's weaker. I'm pretty sure I read the IFS drive shafts are thicker than 80/105. I guess the CV boots are theoretically vulnerable to damage, but they're quite well protected by the lower arms. The front suspension travel is pretty poor though, which can be a bit limiting. That's...

    Indicators cutting out while towing

That's a strange combination of symptoms ... I think the indicator flasher relay is behind the drivers side kick panel. Maybe you could track that down and see what's going on voltage wise at the relay?

Cut wires on bumper driving / fog lights (failed RWC) - How to fix?

Those lights look like aftermarket, in an aftermarket bumper? Looks to me like whoever added those lights just didn't connect all the wires, rather than them being cut. Normally there's just a fog light and 2 wires.

    Trying to start by itself!!

When you turn the key to the start position, I'd expect to see 12v at one of the bottom pins. 9v is a bit odd actually. I don't know which of the two bottom pins should be 12v and which should be 0v unfortunately, but it should be quite clear cut - not one is 12v and one is 9v - that would...

    New rear springs

Yes, I still have AHC which I'm refurbishing, and I have a set of king springs which I may fit once I've added a bit more weight. I've been down this road before and know that if you don't let the AHC carry enough of the load you get a bouncy under damped ride. Thanks Chris.

    Trying to start by itself!!

the switched and coil circuits of the relay are quite separate. I'd forget the power back up the wire theory personally. You said there was power both sides of the relay - which pins did you test and was that with the relay in place or removed? You can often remove the cover on those relays...

    Need to replace engine computer

Hi Rudie. There's a common fault in the engine bay fuse box on UZJ's, on the fuse to power part of the engine ECU, that can be mis-diagnosed as an ECU fault. The symptoms are that the engine will crank but not start, and on closer inspection you see the security light flashing, indicating that...

Centre diff lock fault not working **now fixed !!**

Yes, the centre one has to be locked for the rear to be activated, so the switch on the transfer that detects CDL needs to make the circuit. It's usually a reliable system that works well, so if you fix it, it should stay working, well. If you convert to cable / free wheeling hubs etc I think...

    Wheel bearing, failure, knuckle replacement.

When the bearings collapse they often start spinning on the spindle and damage it. As Chris said, just because there is visible damage does not mean it has to be replaced. If they worked on it 1k ago it should be their responsibility. Either they reinstalled a bearing that should have been...

    Finding a good 100

The first picture is drivers side just in front of the rear wheel. 2nd picture is driver side just behind the front wheel. If the second picture is supposed to be showing a repair, that's a body mounting point and I think that'd be a pretty unusual place to need a repair already. The picture...

    Real world V8 running costs?

The last picture in post #19 looks completely rotten to me but we don't know where it is. The fuel tank guard towards the rear looks pretty lumpy with rust and because of its exposed position is a good indication imo of how much salt the vehicle has been exposed to and what you're likely to find...
  43. Jon Wildsmith

    Real world V8 running costs?

My interpretation of those pictures is that it was undersealed or similar and the rust we see in the pictures is just what's broken through. I suspect there will be a lot more rust visible to the naked eye albeit some is under paint. That's just a best guess though, based on pictures and...

    Real world V8 running costs?

Road salt, or if it's from anywhere near the coast then from the air all year round.
  45. Jon Wildsmith

    Real world V8 running costs?

So rusty in places it's more like a crust than steel. Especially the last picture. Looks like it's seen a lot of salt. Just my thoughts on seeing those pictures. I could be completely wrong.
  46. Jon Wildsmith

    Real world V8 running costs?

That looks a bit crusty to me. I get between 11mpg in heavy city traffic and 15mpg on a run most of the time. Very occasionally I've seen better, as high as 19mpg, when forced to drive slowly but 14/15 is more realistic if you enjoy driving ;)

    Front lockers?

  48. Jon Wildsmith

    Front lockers?

Are you sure about diesel 100's getting ATRAC? I've not come across any and was under the impression it's a technical limitation and was never available.
  49. Jon Wildsmith

    Front lockers?

Petrol 100's from late 1999 *build date* onwards have ATRAC traction control and no rear locker from the factory. Before then and on diesels of any age a rear locker was an option. There are several after market options for adding front and/or rear lockers.
