We are very happy to show the finished car. Well finished.... We did our first long drive. Very proud. First night "wild camp". Lots of thoughts about freedom etc. Next step: noise reduction for the long distances. Any suggestions and experience?

    Absolutely Gutted In Morocco

Dear Bryan, we are very happy you escaped physical harm. 9 minutes of craziness. Then all the troubled rethinking about what you could have done otherwise. Fortunately time will bring rest to all these thoughts. Wonderful to hear the fast reactions of the team and equally to read the supportive...

Ok. Saw the youtube. Amazing! However curious about the offroad capacities. A bit more complicated tapestry as well. Interested how the battery management is designed;)).

Thank you. That is very kind of you. We have absolutely no idea if we will miss power and speed. Possibly we will contend for the competition of slowest travellers and probably we will be quite happy with that. The Andes are still far away. We will try Valkenburg and Norway first. Then we will...

Thanks Stan, the roof pops up straight, so we can stand, we will sleep on the banks. At least, we will test that. Eventually a construction to sleep higher may be possible but for the moment stretches the budget a bit;).

    breathers for an overlander

Hi, ok, thanks for your reply. Axles are done. I wondered if it would be necessary to do the diffs and boxes. We live in Amsterdam. Indeed not so far!

    breathers for an overlander

I searched the other forum, so in this case the question is: with extended axle breathers on a HZJ79 with a 2.5 inch raise, what would be the safe wading depth for an average overlander. Not a hardcore offroader. No extension for transmission boxes, neither for the diffs.

    breathers for an overlander

Hi all, Our hzj79 has adapted simple heightened breathers. Would you advice for an average future overlander to ask for the same for the diffs and transfer boxes. Their standard height is at which level? Top of the wheels? I suppose thar will be the max for an overlander? Please your ideas?

store LC in Norway in July

Hi, thank you very much. Indeed, Alta would be a good idea in view of the connections with Paris. For the parking I was indeed hoping for a Landcruiser enthousiast owning a barn or garage or driveway, were an exchange for some French cheese and/or wine could be welcomed. Anyway thank you for...

Front wheel hubs: to buy or not to buy

Hi, We have a HZJ79, HI/LO gear shift, rear diff. Thanks for your answer and advice. I will look for a wrecker. Not much wrecks in France although.;)

store LC in Norway in July

Dear all, For our first trip, to test ourselves and our 79, we are planning a month from Normandy, France to the Nordkap. Obviously we should be in a hurry to be back for work in July, but we want to enjoy. The idea is to let the LC somewhere in the north of Norway, fly back to France, work 3...

Leaving your LC in Laos or Malaysia for a few months

It would seem a little early to think about this, when one hasn't driven one kilometer with the car. Yet dreaming is not rational so questions will appear aberrant. With the new rules for Thailand, prescribing a guide to travers the country, we are thinking to leave the car in a neighboring...

Front wheel hubs: to buy or not to buy

Are there strong opinions about the necessity of front freewheel hubs for a candidate overlander? Any suggestions about a mark? Genuine Toyota, AVM? Thanks for an advice.

Modifications are underway. Black rims with AT's for overlanding. Rockslides. Protections screen for the radiator. Bulbar is for later when we hope to travel outside Europe. This very useful safety bar is apparently not conform european regulations. Keep you updated.

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

O Steve, if ever you intend to pass by Franschhoek: don't forget to reserve well in advance for a dinner at The Foliages. Much has been written about the quality of the food, pro's and con's. Our experience: delicious star-rating food for a very reasonable price. Bearded hipster-like guys in...

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

It is two way, but there are certainly sections where it is nearly impossible and thus dangerous to pass each other. So it was advised reaching the top of the rather high hills to survey the road to watch for climbing cars and then wait. For us it was our first real 4X4 experience, low gear...

Hedgehog - 3rd leg of round the world - Southern Africa

If possible try the passage of the Bavianen Kloof. Unesco site. Definitely 4x4 and lots of low gear. Beautiful! Halfway sleep and eat with the visionair and hard working owners of the Zandvlakte farm. Extraordinary experience. Another beautiful passage is the Sani-pass to enter Lesotho from SA...

Front wheel hubs: to buy or not to buy

Our HZJ79 is being upgraded a bit for years of overlanding in our dreams and hopefully in our future. Being new in this area and thus reading my eyes out and straining both hemispheres about all overdone accessoires and how to spend even more on the villa as floorheating and massage chairs, I...

I fricking want this LC so bad

I don't recognize the camper unit, but I know that Trayon, Australian, imports his nice cabins in Europe, by a Swiss couple. Look on their site. Seen the cabins on an expo. Beautiful. Needs a certified tray though.

No, these are Italian. Good quality but a bit to shiny for overlanding if you know what I mean. Black steel Toyota rims will replace them.

Another look at the tailgate. The tent will be replaced. Bed will be downstairs. Wheels will be AT's and on more modest looking steel rims.

Thank you very much. Uhh, millions? Then some discussion will be necessary with my other half. Entering the grey nomad level, life expectancy will allow us perhaps 150-200 k. The LC has 60 k. No problem there. Then there is the possibility of the arrival of grandchildren. Funny things may...
