Who is doing what maintenance today?

Replaced water pump on the 80, bit more of an involved job than I thought. Timing belt off, cam gear off then front cover off. Not Toyota's best idea. Also replaced n/s/r calliper as siezed and the pads while I was there.

Alternator bearing seized up yesterday, do you think I'll get warranty? Only 27 years old with 215 thousand on it. Did manage to strip it and free it off and now it works but how long for? Shame you can't buy the bearing, spoke to a couple of local suppliers and they couldn't help. Ordered a new...

...so thats why my winch wasn't working...

I've only ever used mince twice, first to pull someone out of a ditch and the second time to pull myself out of a ditch after I reversed in to it not looking what I was doing. Both occasions a winch or a 2nd vehicle would be the only option. So sometimes you don't even have to be off road to...

    What budget laptop?

We've got 2 chromebooks and if all you're doing is browsing ebay the forum and roughtrax like me they're brilliant as they load instant and have built in security. If you have a Google account you can link all your pictures from your phone to the laptop via Google drive. Brilliant for the money

    Project mush 80

Rebuilt the steering box today after the oil was coming out as fast as it went in. The lower dust seal had fell out and after getting the shaft out you could see why. Someone had evidently twatted the box with the hammer causing the seal section to be oval. Wasn't too bad a job actually, the...

    Wheel spacers

My 70 also has spacers, im not sure how long they've been on but it doesn't drive bad at all. Surely it's only roughly the same effect as bigger tyres and offset rims?

    Another 'light' restoration

I'd say 60% of it is new metal, the bits that aren't were scaled with an air scaler then painted in por15. The new metal was painted in chassis black from Frost restoration. The whole lot was then coated in clear waxoyl inside and out.

Not many timing belts can be done in half an hour but this was an absolute breeze! New belt kit fitted, didn't look much wrong with the old one but the tensioner was leaking a bit of oil. Next job wasn't quite half an hour, the o/s swivel was leaking, ordered all genuine seals and new kingpin...

informing insurance about new springs and shock absorbers UK

I'm pretty sure old man emu make standard height coil springs? If they are I wouldn't bother saying anything. At the end of the day it's only like 99% of all other cars on the road that have non genuine shockers fitted when the originals fail. Only yours are probably better than standard.

Dad has been very busy on this over the last few weeks, he's welded up all the body apart from the front wings. Half of the chassis is done, waiting for the lower trailing arm mounts which were ordered from amayama. Big orders going in with milner and roughtrax this week. More to come

    Project mush 80

Not much has changed on the 80 for a while, just been using it. But a couple of years on from the rebuild all the paint on the bumpers and wheel carrier was looking terrible, I don't rate raptor paint at all, as soon as it chip's it all flakes off. So I bought the paint I've found best - por15...

yep ours has only done 130 thousand, dad did the head on it a couple of years ago but other than that had no mechanical issues in 10 years. Another 'light' restoration

Its not as involved as we thought it would be, fuel tank had to come off and the engine and body plugs were straightforward. Cut all the body mount bolts off as there was nothing left. Difficult bit was finding something solid enough to lift the body..... Better get the steel supplier on speed dial!
