Thank you. I have heard they are mighty good. i'll check my mate at his garage. going to get the old girl up on a ramp shortly and have a proper go stood up instead of crawling around underneath.

    My 2004 100 Series

A very dissatisfactory third attempt to get my diff locker off to replace with the new unit. spent about 90 minutes chewing up the bottom left bolt on the locker housing. it is well stuck. i'll get her up on a large 4 poster ramp when i get back the week after next and have a proper go...

Sold in 2016, bought back in 2023 My 1994 M reg 80 series 12v manual VX

My nephew changed 3 of the 4 corners for the flexy brakes pipes himself last week. he came up yesterday so we could attack the one that was rusted on. all sorted now and the brakes are much better. we also changed the panhard rod bushes, and ordered a new track rod to connect to the pitman...

Sold in 2016, bought back in 2023 My 1994 M reg 80 series 12v manual VX

Just spent three full days with my nephew working on the cruiser again. the front diff started making a really bad noise on him a few months back. got some interesting metal pieces out when he drained the oil. so he had removed the front propshaft and drove around with the centre difflock on...

    My 2004 100 Series

I wanted to replace the reflectors in the rear bumper. the previous owner had fitted leds which may have been pretty when new, but some of the diodes had failed and plastic had turned rather pink. i checked my local Toyota dealer and laughed when they said £50 each - for the small reflectors...

    My 2004 100 Series

Gravity bled front brakes., ordered set of front brake pads for the shelf, one new brake pad slide pin (to replace a bolt that was fitted at some time in it's past), 2 of the wires that stop the slide pins coming out, and one bottom wire clip that was missing drivers side front.

    My 2004 100 Series

Wasn’t happy with the new front brake pads. they came with the car when i collected it - i found them in a cubby in the load area at the back. appears a little oil or hydraulic fluid or something has been weeping into there, so i shall have to investigate that. anyway, long story short, the...

At the third attempt I intercepted them as they came in and got the letter/bill posted and got them a couple of days later. This process took just over a year and was entirely down to the incompetence of Royal mail/ parcel force. Thank you - when you say you intercepted them can you clarify...

So the diff lock from amayama got as far as uk customs. and then it sat for a week. the next update from their shipping service indicates it has been returned to UAE. most odd. no attempt by local post office to deliver and local postman who i know has had nothing for me either.

    My 2004 100 Series

@Gary - chers. the body itself looks ok. already rounded one bolt and all the irwin extractor did was chew it up. ill get that bolt off with a dremel if need be once the new actuator arrives. otherwise the overall lack of serious rust underneath has made most of the buts and bolts easy enough to...

Rear locker. Woke up today with the thought i should buy a new locker so have done that from Amayama. Once that arrives I will strip the old and see if i can get it working, it can always live on the parts shelf for now.

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

I had done. i have just downloaded the virtual box with techstream from iha8mud. and with the new mini vci lead it connected, and had in automatically filled in model and engine - which none of the other versions had done. It also correctly interrogated all the ecus so I am pleased with that...

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

The wiring/pins at the ODB port appear OK. i also swapped the OBD fuse for good measure. I have hooked up a carista dongle and can read the ecus, also using carscanner i can read data from the sensors. so at a loss right now as to what is afoot.

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

It does go on and on! The old lead used to work, then it stopped working. i bought the nano to replace it, and then another lead as well. the nano and the new lead using various versions of techstream all connect to the car. but neither will interrogate any module. i will check wiring in the...

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

That’s an interesting thought. ill have a look in the morning cheers. What is puzzling is that it must have stopped working when the old lead dies, I am wondering why the old lead stopped working and what happened immediately before.

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

Disconnected batteries for an hour, then tried once more. same story - can access the car with techstream but cannot access any of the modules with the Nano, nor the new Mini vci cable.

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

Hmmm, so i have tried the vcx nano on another toyota and it connect fine. as does the new mini vci cable that just arrived. neither the Nano nor the mini vci will interrogate any module on the landcruiser. might have to try a different model year and see if that sorts it, or perhaps disconnect...

i dont think it will make a difference either. i have asked about five times for a refund and they keep dragging it along. i will have the last laugh. i have since ordered another vci lead. techstrem sees the nano, the nano connects to the car as it should. but when i attempt to connect to...

Thanks. I had their tech support on a team viewer session yesterday. they want me to upgrade that laptop from windows 7 to windows 10 (will be new to me - i have only used macs since the mid 1990s). Techstream is set to connect to J (cant recall the rest) as Nano does not show up as an...

Techstream - Mini VCI lead just died - anyone used VXDiag VCX Nano?

@pugwash - many thanks. The nano connect to the truck fine but techstream wont interrogate any of the modules. i have tried version 16 and version 12 with the same results. working with the supplier now to try to resolve the issue. versipon 12 with the old minivci cable did connect until the...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

@Dave_S i really enjoyed my outings in the Jimny. went places that an 80 would have got well stuck in. it's a great little light truck. mine had a "lift" just shackles and poly blocks atop standard suspension. i fitted a trailmaster kit and that transformed it. i also got rid of the insa...

Jimny's are great fun. This is mine when i had it after i sorted out the wheels and suspension and baselined it. Made a nice hand throttle out of a shimano gear changers mounted to the side of the gear stick. worked really well.
