Groove on front axle ball, is it normal? KZJ78

That looks like it's been stood for quite a while. My old Disco started leaking grease from one of the front hubs and on closer inspection, a deep gouge had appeared in one of my balls, no idea how but I fixed it by filling with epoxy and sanding smooth. The fix was still working 3 years later...

Anyone good at electrics? I need to wire up loads of lights.

If you want the lights to work independently then they'll each require their own +12v feed and switch, a common earth will do. If they're all to work as one then just one switch/feed of the correct rating. Size of wiring and relay will depend on what the lights are, Halogen filament, HID or LED...

    80 series torque upgrade.

A story from a time when "Made in Britain" meant just that and actually stood for something. That could be an article about the British bike industry. Some famous brands have been ressurected. In addition to their more modern offerings, Triumph are now selling a "Classic" range on the back of...

    80 series torque upgrade.

When I was a lad, back in the 60's/70's, Gardner engines were very highly rated/respected. Most of the Sheffield bus fleet ran them as did some articulated tractor units. My mates dad was an artic driver and drove a Guy Big J 4T tractor unit with a Gardner 180. He used to let us sit in it and...

    The corona virus thread

There was an article on home milk deliveries on our local news program a few weeks ago. The men and women who run their own milk rounds (what's left of them) have seen their business boom with some having to turn down extra customers and some taking on extra staff. Don't know how long it will...

    Starter relay

Again, I'm talking diesel here but the starter is very easy to get at and remove from underneath. When the unit is on the bench, accessing and changing the contacts is just as easy.

    Starter relay

Not 100% sure about the petrol models but on the diesel versions the main starter solenoid and starter motor are one unit and the solenoid contacts are known to weld together giving the problem you describe. The solenoid contacts are replaceable for just a few £.

    Land Cruiser increasing in value?

This subject gets discussed every time an expensive 80 comes up. It's amazing what a valet and polish can do. Look at the wheels and the rear bumper and as mentioned above, what about the underside? As already said, if someone is prepared to pay it then it must be worth it but there's no way...

    1995 lockers or not

Apologies if you already know this but don't be tempted to try locking all the diffs on sound tarmac as, at best, it'll wind up the transmission, at worst it'll break something. Even on wet grass or loose sand etc, locking all 3 diffs will give you a turning circle in the Supertanker class. The...

    Headgasket????

On the original gasket there should be a mark (notch) on the corner next to No. 6 cyl which denotes the thickness. If the engine has been fully rebuilt, the piston protrusion from the top of the block should be measured and the appropriate gasket selected. If it's only the head that's been off...

Chas was asking about CB use just the other night on here........CB use Doesn't bode well for CB use although I would guess that Ham Radio users will be more likely to spend the extra time/hassle/money on HF kit for their rigs. How long before the ruling is adopted over here I wonder?
