Just a daytrip in Northern France.

The TLC a muddy rig needs after a trip, I usually underestimate the hard work. Pressure clean the outside and the undercarriage, take off the wheels and pressure clean all those nooks and crannies. Decided the next day the wheelwells could use an undercoat spraying as well as the space they...

Just a daytrip in Northern France.

http://youtu.be/EULJQSU8jQE EULJQSU8jQE Been a while since I've post up anything, other hobbies and the missus keeping me busy I guess. In the mean time the land cruiser either just sat there and waited. Or just plain was used as a tool for work. Nice to get out and about in amongst the fields...

    what size winch

That is indeed the weird thing about DC eletric motors. They always seem to use the power they need to get the job done. Even to the extent of running hot and burning out the motor, relays or even cables if the entire system isn't dimensioned correctly. It sometimes feels like its giving 110%...

    what size winch

Sorry for the offtopic posts. Mines a 9.5ti from Warn, has pulled me out of the mud a few times. Lightly loaded vehicle. Anyone know what Toy fitted as standard? You can put as large a winch on as possible, but at some point the chassis or the winch power supply becomes the weak point. I'll...

    what size winch

My Ipad doesn't load the link wright. It wants you or me to convert to Icloud. ;) Since it's a bit frigid outside and TV is rather boring, well if possible I'd read through the entire document. A public access pdf and some munchies and you'll have made me a very happy chappy indeed.

Well, I always thought adding a snatch block gave me more pulling power? It certainly seems like that when I'm tensioning up trees for felling. Any articles or interesting reading on the subject?

    Which Clutch

Biggest problem is precisionlifting the combined gearbox and the transfer case. These are bolted together and are real heavy. I bought myself one of those hydraulic gearbox lifters. The rest is just easy going, coffee and repair manual at hand.

    Which Clutch

The car manufacturers relie on those brand name subcontractors helping them develop just about every part of the vehicle. I recently ordered an OEM BMW airfilter made by MANN to replace the aftermarket MANN filter in the BMW. Although the fit of the aftermarket airfilter was more than ok! The...

    Which Clutch

When I got the tranny rebuilt, I did some clutches research on the aussie forums. Indeed you'd think a clutch is a clutch. Seems there are normal duty clutches and heavy duty ones. Some people who put in the heavy duty ones had shudder on takeoff, some didn't. So as my vehicle is the OEM heavy...

    Which Clutch

I've had mileages out of Toy clutches to not even consider an aftermarket one. My previous 2.4 cyl landcruiser needed gear changes just about every minute to have enough power to get somewhere. The first clutch lasted something like 250.000 km. Just ask mister Toy if the is a difference...

    Steel versus alloy rims

I for one don't like alloy wheels. Simply because I like to be able to change a wheel out with simple hand tools. Don't know why, probably something to do with oxidation. But lug nuts that haven't been loosened on an alloy for some time are always a pain.

anyone using a K&N type filter?

When you're using a K&N filter combined with their filter wrap you get the following steps working for you. First the filter wrap is a not to dense thick foam oiled with their filter oil. Not to dense foam cuts up the airflow and the filter oil traps the smaller particles. Second is the oiled...

That time of the year again.

Today I received the yearly Belgian MOT card in the mail. Had breakfast, rolled the cruiser out of the garage, checked all my lights were working. And headed of to the local MOT station. No bottles or additives this time, just a years driving and drinking fuel from the TOTAL pumps. Stuck in a...

    Youtube find!!!

I said it before on another forum. That's the Wile E. Coyote ACME Rockcrawler. It's just wanting to get its head crushed in by a falling tree or bolder. Cartoon style offroad! Amazing engineering though. He is a kind to Polaris engineering as well if you yougoogle some. Awesome idiotic fun!

anyone using a K&N type filter?

If you are changing out dirty airfilters everytime you do a service, a K&N isn't for you. Best stick to the standard Toy one and maybe get one of those cyclone prefiltration systems. If your airfilter is just a bit black with a few bugs, then a K&N filter with their filterwrap added is a good...

You just said it, manual windows, simple engine, cable lockers, auto truck tranny,... What's there not to love! Just the other day some guy at work said his new car opens a window when you open a door, then closes it again when you shut the door. To releave cabin pressure!! Do they make them...

    wow (60 series)

A farmer I know has recently done some work on his 60. Full bodywork, chassis blasted and galvanised, driveline has seen a full service. 2 new seats. He said it spent something like 2,5 months at the garage. Very happy chappy and a nice cruiser indeed. Wouldn't mind owning a 6 cilinder 60...

Next time your 2-stroke chainsaw or hedgetrimmer kicks the bucket. Then open it up. Most of the bearings are open so the mist can get in there and do its work. 4-strokes with pressure lubrication use other bearings and actually run on an oil film between the 2 surfaces needing lube. 2-stroke...

    Anyone adding

I'm not a certified oil guy, but here's a guestimate. 2- stroke probably is a monograde low viscosity oil. Something like SAE 5 or SAE 0. When starting a Swedish candle I use it in stead of lamp oil or diesel. It burns slower. Also use it for the obvious reasons, 2-stroke engines
  27. C

    Anyone adding

Happy newyearsday everyone!! Funny thing about the 2-stroke oil. I actually had a guy in lately who ran it instead of motoroil in his ride-on mower. Used the full mineral stuff. Didn't know better and kept topping up the oil level. Has been doing it for 18 years, engine ran fine no problems...

My thinking about the injector cleaner is more in the lines of fuel upgrader. I've had injector/injection pump cleaner loosen gunk in the fuel tank and clog up the fuel filter. Mostly on diesels standing for a long time with old fuel in them. It probably cleans something at a higher rate than...

Who's good at maths: Brake effort after bigger tyres.

Unless you modify your brakes to bite harder and longer. Then bigger tyres means longer stopping distances. I've driven some horrible concepts with standard brakes and huge tyres. An inch or 2 up from standard tyres is still pretty driveable.
  31. C

    Anyone adding

I haven't added 2-stroke oil to the fuel. But I have noticed there is a big difference in the fuel you get from the pump. I monitor mpg at every fill up and you tend to notice a trend when fuelling at certain pumps. Different brands give different mpg, usually the more you pay the better mpg...

    Chain or belt?

When driving along at motorway speeds the CV only does something like 500 rpm. With that small a diameter and that sticky a grease, that really isn't going to fling in off the CV and into the inside off the quoted "cannonballs". Every service I just add something like 20 pumps from the grease...

    still 80-less

When I bought mine there weren't much 80's going round second hand. So I bought the first full spec that came along. Wanted lockers and the 6-inline diesel engine. Front end needed service, gearbox needed refurbishing, shocks were shot, upper rear door was rusted and other little problems that...

    Chain or belt?

These things like HG and BEB shouldn't put you off at all. They aren't regular maintenance to say the least. And the repairs are easy without any time consuming remanufacturing. Just be aware that the problem may occur and use some proactive maintenance.
  39. C

    Chain or belt?

The petrol 80's like to blow a headgasket as far as the yanks are concerned. Nothing major though, just the headgasket that separates and pressure gets into the cooling system. When you detect hoses starting to sweat coolant and becoming pressurised, than probably headgasket. Simply order the...

    Nice one Mercedes!!

I've got an 1986 GD300, use it as a local runabout on 235/85R16 continental ATR tyres and some bilstein shocks. That's it, no mods, no frills, just straight out of the box with only minimal recovery gear. Over the years it has never suffered major mechanical problems, still on the original...

    Nice one Mercedes!!

Over on the P3 forum there is a stiff debate going on, what exactly went wrong. It seems stiff tyres with minimal sidewall and heavyfooted drivers went in search of the limits. This on a corrugated track. All that motion energy had to be dissapated through the shocks, so they were the first to...

    Generator rectification help please

With the addition of bio fuels the shelf life we use is 6 months for anything you buy at the local pump. There are fuel stabilisers on the market, but don't expect wonders. You're stabilising something that goes off  Best kind of fuel for long term "sitting there" is Aviation fuel...

    Low gearing ....

That handthrottle is a great feature. Use it to set the engine at a decent speed when winching. Only a few occasions I've used it for driving. Great for crossing ploughed fields diagonally, the car is rocking all the time and your foot on the gas isn't helping. You can't have a more fluent...

Best tool for the job (rust removal)

3M undercoat Don't bother with steel brushes and such aymore. Just a warm high pressure wash with some detergent and when it's dry apply 3M undercoat. Application is great when you buy one of those compressed air 3M splatter guns. Fire it on like a semi automatic, in short bursts :thumbup...

Anyone tried K&N style air filters.

How on Gods Earth would a magnet have any influence on something that isn't magnetic??? Just try lifting several drops of fuel with a magnet  And another thing, you've allready got one mounted on the vehicle. The fuel shutoff solenoid needs juice for fuel to flow, so you've got...
