    Rear Brake lights stuck on?

Spray the switch with wd40 If there is clearance on the pedal, the switch may be stuck down. Just a thought. Cheers

so, if i was to take a trip to

I would not let the price of fuel or road tolls spoil your choice of holiday. holidays are way too important !! You can google fuel prices if you need a really accurate budget. But as a rule of thumb try and avoid motorway fuel stations in any country and you will be fine. The alps is great...

    Prado Vs Amazon

I doubt you can disconnect ATRAC as it is part of the ABS system. You would never use it on its own to get through a technical section, but what it does do, is it gives you a locker equivalent for the front and back. LC2 & LC3 only have a rear diff locker. As it is part of the ABS the...

    Prado Vs Amazon

Picking on Crispin is not fair :naughty: One truck with a snag..... I won't name names in the 80 camp  Should I suggest we are both wrong.... When you can get a new hi-lux for 18k ???
  8. A

That's fair, better the devil you know. They are both great trucks, but the real bargain, which I see a lot on the trail these days is the hi-lux. And you can get a brand new one for £18k Good luck on your hunt though

    Prado Vs Amazon

Seriously... Honest. I have been very impressed with mine, ok it's fairly modified and I haven't ever been worried and the ATRAC has worked faultlessly. My last 4x4 was a merc g-wagon and it was awesome too, but on balance I think the Prado has the edge. A lot of traction issues are down to...

ATRAC is cool.... Works every time... Not like stuck diff locks :0) Or maybe it's an import without diff locks ?

    Prado Vs Amazon

Karl, Sadly I will be in the Pyrenees at the weekend, but I would also need 4 Amazon drivers to sit in mine to balance the weight just to make it fair ...... But it would sure be an interesting test.. Alternatively, you could follow me, if you didn't have to stop for diesel all the time :0)
  12. A

    Prado Vs Amazon

Yup Prado is the sleek racing snake of a Land Cruiser, whereas an Amazon is a Lard Cruiser slightly plumper on the dimensions and 500kg heavier :0) Ps all the Prados are beautiful, well not sure about the 150... It lost the transfer box lever :0(
  13. A

You should look at the Prados, they are only fractionally smaller, faster, more economic, lighter and you will get a much newer one for the same money. Just a thought .

    Diesel Trap

The high pressure is only between the injector pump on the engine and injector. It is a feature of the common rail system. The fuel tank to injector pump is low pressure. But why fit an extra trap when you have one already ?

    Prado Vs Amazon

Mmmm will try harder, and yes slow day !! But I do like the fact that a fully laden Prado weighs the same as an empty Amazon ! Unless the +500 kgs includes the Amazon driver :0)

I am trying to work out why a Prado is such a better truck than an Amazon ?? Any ideas?.

    Self servicing question

No problem, I noted on the 120 that the diff oil gets changed every major service, but the gearboxes can be sealed for life, and you just check the level and condition of the oil. That said the Toyota garage said that if you are doing significant heavy duty you could change every 100k The...

Best tyres for my 80 series

The Bridgestone 694's are highly rated on pradopoint as the best road biased AT tyre. The BFG would be my choice for offroad, but they are 50/50 road offroad tyre. They can be a bit stiff/bouncy on road. These also reduce your fuel consumption by about 10%. But I guess from your comments you...

    4WD Expeditions - snorkels

Trevor, I agree with you, that is poor form. But you need to know the quality of what you are buying before you start drilling big holes in your pride and joy. Engine repairs are silly prices for water ingress and worst of all could spoil a well planned adventure. Just to save the price of...

    4WD Expeditions - snorkels

The cosmetic copies are ok if you want the look ! But you won't appreciate the quality until you actually use them on expedition conditions and seen how rugged they are. None of the exped company vehicles use copy gear and they all fit quality, that is with good reason. You can choose what...

    Need more light?

Yup basically.... You get used to the bright lights very easily, and when you drop to dip beam the lights change faster than your eyes adjust, and you are almost blind, compound that with the on coming cars headlights you can see next to nothing. Off road you just leave them in high beam :0)...

    Need more light?

I would post a warning from my experience that when you have such a bright main beam and you dip for on comming traffic you can't see a blooming thing cos your eyes are used to the brighter light and your dip will seem like candles! That said, for off road, great !

    Satellite Phone

The spot takes a little setting up, but works fine once your running. The thing I like is I can run it from my iPhone. The only trick is to switch from track mode to check in mode that's the bit that had me foxed. I thought I could text while tracking. Less than £300 will cover the spot, ram...

Do you really need two way comms? A spot Connect would allow you to send text and email over the gps system. One way only though, but have the advantage of being a global EPIRB too. It also allows pals to real time track your gps position. Check them out at http://www.findmespot.eu/en/...

    HDJ80 - Winch Bumper

I have one on my 120 took a couple of hours to fit. Quality is excellent and even shipping direct from France, way cheaper than anything else I could get in the uk The 120 version is 47kgs of solid steel and with my xp9 winch, it is best part of 100kg on the nose so you will probably want...

    Snorkels

They are designed to face forward, that gives a ram air pressure to aid the air flow, and overcome the additional resistance of the additional trunking. Safari snorks are designed to shed rain water sucked in by the head design which allows it to drain out the side. Not all the cheapos do this...

    My 120

You might want to get a copy of "from here to there" by Jon & jack Faine. You can get paperback, or audiobook via iTunes They drive a 120 from Melbourne to London, the last chapters are interesting when they reviewed what worked and what didn't also a cost analysis which is scary !

    Annoying squeak...

I had a similar problem, and it was my bumper was too high. There is a couple of tabs on the front wing that point down and could just reach the trailing edge of bumper directly above the wheel when I went over a bump. I had thought it might have been the roll bar links, as they are a...

    Looking for a snorkel.

http://www.dont-get-burnt.com/ It's your choice what you fit, but at least be aware of what your fitting. The idea is to increase the reliability of your vehicle in extreme conditions, not reduce it.

    Looking for a snorkel.

Just get a proper safari snorkel from TBR it's only £300ish and not likely to leak. That will save you a £5k engine repair! The cheapo ones will either leak or be too small for the engine airflow demand, and reduce the engine power.

    Underbody protection.

Same here, but I have been pressure washing, then using Hammerite primer as it is a rust killer, then brushing on a shutz underseal. I did spray my jeep with shutz, but got 50/50 on the jeep and me ! So brushing is more controllable, but slower. You will find the the factory coatings never...

    120 Series rear bumper

I was quite keen on the rear bumper, but if the weight is like the front bumper, (swaping plastic for steel) then you will probably need to upgrade your rear springs too. So that will be even more cost to factor in :0(

    auto gearbox: 4gears(2004) vs 5 gears(2005+ ?)

Ok, so the gearbox change must have happened in 2004, my car is registered jan 05 and has a 5 speed and must have been built in 04. I had asked mr T to change the gearbox ATF at the 60k service and I was advised they were sealed for life units and they only check the fluid condition and level...

    auto gearbox: 4gears(2004) vs 5 gears(2005+ ?)

Are you sure they are different? you may find that the gearbox is a 4 speed and overdrive rather than a true 5 speed gearbox. If you can see the car, the gear lever will probably go from D-4-3-2-L which would imply it could be locked in 4 so it will either be a 5 speed or 4+overdrive

If it is black smoke it is fuel, if it is blue it is oil, and if its blue and white it probably the turbo. if it is black it is probably the compensation valves on the injectors over fueling unnecessarily, but to test that get it booked in at the dealership and the will be able to tell if it...
