    MIG Welders....

I have been through 2 of the ebay ROHR mig/mag/arc 250a dc welders from ebay in 3years. They supply current ok and have good mosfet chipsets however the spool feed, the cooling fan, gas connectors and just about every other part is not up to even hobby use. Their after sales warrranty support is...

    Rear Bumper Spare Wheel Carrier!

I photographed one on a carpark somehwere once and must look for the photo. There could be some on the ih8mud forum You could easily do it with a tapered trailer axle. I think the cross member was from C channel and there was just a rubber spacer to keep it deflecting forward onto the rear...

    Clutch Slip Travel Risk?

I have owned 3 defender 90 including a county fitted with a fourtrak 2.8tdi. If you have one with a sheared outputshaft from towing a plant trailer with two bails of silage on board then the 80 with the slipping clutch will still tow it and the rain wont come in the door pillar and run down your...

80 series pulling to the right under braking

Check the tabs that hold the pads in are not restricted by the retaining springs. Two things can happen in that aftermarket pads sometimes do no thave the correct tab profile or you can get a build up of rubbish in there. ABS will not cause pulling unless it gets activated somehow. Most likely a...

    Clutch Slip Travel Risk?

Just be aware that if you destroy the clutch to the point of loosing drive, then you will possibly be looking at a flywheel re-surface too. Dont ask me how I know that but in an 80 with a slipping clutch you can still tow a defender 90 with a trailer and two bails of silage!

    Rear Bumper Spare Wheel Carrier!

I have seen a detachable swing away rear wheel mounts in Oz. they bolt on to the inside of the factory towbar channel with two bolts into the rear crossmember where the pre tapped holes are. Really neat solutuion and take it off when you are not touring. Make it from Alloy RHS and whats not to...

    A universal torque wrench setting

No but it will nicely corrode and expand all the bolts so that they will never come loose! Durlac does a nice job of anti rust, size and threadlocking all in one.

Defo think with new cheap parts that they should be stripped down to their components, checked for imperfections, toleranced, lubed, reassembled and then wonder why one didn't buy OEM to begin with.

    Confession.

Right so bleed bleed and bleed again. I was using a pressure bleeder to avoid having to pump the pedal. When I had steady flow at each corner it should have worked but the fronts didn't budge. In the end I had to manipulate the pistons out of the calipers and work them in and out a few times to...

    Flexible Brake Hoses

I'm not too sure but I think they said that they don't offer a specific center hose because there are a lot of variants to choose from. Have ordered their stainless braided kit anyway and that's a start. I don't off-road so standard everything should still work. MOT looming so it's getting...

    Flexible Brake Hoses

I am replacing my flexi hoses, but didn't see anything listed as 'Extended' as I am running a Plus 2" spring. Is this not and issue on the 80 because of the location of the relevant to the direction of travel of the axle or what have people used?

Connect your voltmeter inline and check the amperage draw when the float switch is connected and in the on and off position. more boat stuff... this gives me the jitters.

Have you room to fit a shaft PTO? It's not unusual to clamp a pulley on to the shaft unless you are on a saildrive. You could fit a dual pulley and run a clutched emergency bilge/deck/fire pump off it as well.

    Electric boat motors

I think you use DC power but concert it to run an AC motor. Probably need a delta wired/wound setup for control. Tbh it ends up freggin expensive by the time you buy all your shunts, controls, wire up your bank. If you use lead acid then you only have a 40-50% discharge cycle. With such torque...

    low oil pressure

I have to say I never saw any correlation between Beb's and oil pressure unless a Conrod popped out the side. The oil is thicker when cold so pressure is initially higher on startup. I would say it's more useful as an indication of oil level if one sub-conciously calibrates the peripherial of...
