    R12 gas

R134a is not as efficient as r12. But it will still work well on the older system's if you do the right things.

    R12 gas

Drain the compressor of mineral oil. Flush the system. Add port adaptors to compressor ports. Nitrogen leak test system. If no leaks release nitrogen. Vacuum system down. Add correct amount of pag oil to system this mixes with r134a gas. Add a dye if you want. Recharge system with correct...

Please confirm this is a steering wheel for an 80 and is there a possibility it fits on a 100

Yep. Will only fit an 80. 100 series are slightly different casting shape. Also the boss diameter is smaller on a 100. Same splines but smaller.

    90 series 1KZ Torque Converter - Wanted

Seen it before many times that's why. The bushing in the oil pump housing will be damaged. Like I say check your flex plate too for cracking

    90 series 1KZ Torque Converter - Wanted

put a gearbox in it. the oil pump will be damaged. tc will not fix this alone. best bet would be karls box. then a separate transmission cooler large as you can. common problem this is. check the flexplate for cracking. seen this lots of times. if you do fix the box you will need an oil pump...

    80 series transmission pump

be careful just replacing the pump. you may find you have underlying issues which caused the pump failure.

    Knocking/ticking 1hdt

1hdfte will make the noise if they are wrong. just to a lesser extent due to combustion pressure rise rate. you are right though all the 1hd family do this to a greater or lesser extent. including my 1hdft, but to be fair thats due its tappets and injectors to be done @270k
  13. B

    Knocking/ticking 1hdt

valve clearances, injector calibration. Pump timing. All effects the way they run. BEB are only one thing that makes them tick but thats a ticking time bomb so as long as they are done you will be ok. hope you used new rod bolts.

    Should I get an 80?

yeah. but the 80 was best and still is for so many reasons. next best 100 series. check for rust. if your doing loads of car miles id have a well sorted 100 tbh, they are comfier. If your doing more extreme terrain plus car miles get an 80. oh and id go auto for best compromise between daily...

    Really?

Far from it, no turbo factory engine, r151 gearbox. Thinner metals. 105's today are a good condition alternative, but could never fully replace a factory turbo 80, unless some serious powertrain transplants were carried out. Again 105 a good truck, but the powertrain is wrong. Should have been a...

    Really?

If it was a VX amazon with that mileage on id choose that all day over a 100 even at that price. Ive had 100s, 4 ,5 speed etc variable vane turbo etc they just dont cut it, not saying they are bad vehicles at all, they are a lovely motor, drive better on the road, and are plusher than an 80...
  17. B

    Another rare manual.......

Id say the price isn't far away provided the mechanicals are good (clutch, gear box engine axles etc) and the underside is reasonable, after all what can you buy for 12k thats any good these days all the newer stuff is too techy and fragile. If its a tarted up piece of junk fair enough

3.0 D4D will not start when hot

    1H-DT Turbo and Injectors.

Turbo centre do a good job. used them a bit on 1hdt ct26. id use them without hesitation. worth the extra money IMO. Injectors sound about right price for a good job.

    Headgasket????

Plus one on cleaning threads out. This is a must Remember to lubricate the threads lightly too and don't forget the washers these are really important.
  21. B

    Headgasket????

No good if your running a big turbo or boost. You must use new toyota bolts. If you are running stock turbo pressures you will get away with reusing the old bolts. 5 notch on stock machined surfaces definitely drops sharpness of engine. Stick with what comes out unless you start to machine...
  22. B

    Headgasket????

No, stick with the original thickness. it will lose compression and not go aswell. unless the head is warped which i doubt it is. i wouldnt skim it either. you are taking life out of the head (remember its cast iron not aluminium). check the head with a precision straight edge. if in spec clean...

    New v8 this weekend

Yep totally agree. Engines not as good as you'd like to think. Pre 2010 oil consumption problems. D4d injectors you can talk about until your blue in the face they are what they are. AHC issues are expensive to sort too. Recently had a 13 plate in with corroded ruptured pipes. Rotten solenoid...

    Injectors wanted

Good luck........ They are 2 stage injectors and 24 valve more fiddly than 12 valve. Bolting on new nozzles and pop testing them alone will never get them to perform how they should (seen it all before ). £20 an injector yeah right. maybe for a KZ but not 1HD 2 stage , and common rail d4d...

    100 Series Plug-in Tuning Modules

Be very careful with the Steinbauer Ive had 2 of these units for different years (ecu) of 1hdfte vehicle 1999 and 2004. both had the power, but could not overcome the transient drivability issues (shuddering and tug back). Sent the chips back for firmware upgrade, investigated pumps and...

How long is it worth maintaining old diesels for?

I don't post here too often but this business with emissions and its target on diesels alone is a sore point with me (particularly as it seems to have heated up after the vw scandal). What about modern petrols???????? Why should the poster be questioning about rebuilding an engine in a motor...

    Noise after new clutch fit....

Just fitted one of these Roughtrax units (customer supplied) and they are ok, but don't overly impress me (had issues with release bearing during installation). I have to say OEM IS the only proper way to go for clutch feel and longevity end of (its just a bit more money that's all). Change the...

    reverse not working

Valve body or transmission ecu. Check the solenoids out first then the feed to the solenoids when you engage reverse. after that you've got a stuck valve in valve body. Either way could take a bit of time to diagnose, just fitting another gearbox may not be the answer either.

Heavy springs for a heavy bus

Air bags and springs on rear end EVERY time for added weight and towing. Tried all sorts of "stiffer" varieties, pedders, OME, Dobinsons. Trouble is the stiff springs knock your ride comfort about and still don't provide the cushioning effect of air. As Karl says they are a different league get...

    Manual vs. automatic gearbox

The auto is good, but for simplicity you cannot beat a manual they just aren't as easy to drive though (both are good boxes). Keep the auto cool with supplementary cooler and regular oil changes not a lot more to say.
  39. B

    Manual vs. automatic gearbox

Yep they good boxes good to always have a supplementary cooler though for those long hill hauls
  40. B

    Manual vs. automatic gearbox

Not sure on more reliable, its a smaller box physically with a much more sophisticated control. Great to use as a driver and for fuel economy (shifts beautifully) but for work id rather have a 4 speed with the full steel planet sets. Fluid quantity less too about 9.5 litres dry fill compared to...

    100 series injectors.

Physically the bodies are the same as 80 so either will bolt in 24 valve head, but the nozzles in 100 series are different design. So are the springs (higher brake pressures in 100 series injectors). Differences between early and late 100 injectors being brake pressures (higher pressures on...

    Reaplcement 80 radiator options

Yes I agree about the allisport if you can afford it, and lights etc do block air flow (so larger more efficient core required). Nice for you to be in a manual, but for those that do run autos, the cooler issue is very important and needs very important consideration when swapping radiators...

    Reaplcement 80 radiator options

Radiator options Get your original Toyota one recored by a radiator firm, bit more expensive, but you do get to keep your original transmission cooler which have zero issues. If you do have non genuine ensure that you fit a separate transmission cooler to minimise risk of antifreeze going into...

    Aa442F, A440 auto woes !! (once again)

Valve bodies, clutches and oil changes, (supposed to be every 20 -25 000 on service schedule got a guy with 600k on his from new). Saying no more. Yes its an A440 F fitted to this vehicle (no electronics) and yes they like an extra cooler and yes they love an oil change other than that they are...

    fitting a new clutch

Yes this is normal for Japanese manual import trucks, they were fitted with larger flywheel it hasn't been changed or added. Uk manual spec trucks are not the same until they go 24 valve.

Not just overland. Not just expedition: Safari as well!!!!!

Yes I agree with this totally, manual boxes are tedious, and do go wrong (clutches, slaves, synchros etc) just like the autos can , glad somebody has woke up to it at last!! With you on this completely 100% Chris.
