100 series cruiser

Hi Guys
I have had a lot of shall we say bad luck with my cruiser the 80 series while others do not.
But there are issues with the BEBs on the early models and of course we know we all hate the windows in the damp cold weather.
Are there any common issues with the 100 series that have come to light from owners.
Does the suspension give problems with its level correction and it not having solid axels like the 80.
Whats the windows like in cold weather.
How are the diesel engines and the sensors for the ABS and other things like AC, CC etc.
Can the 100 series take the same weight.
Does it perform better at corners and exceleration.
What about mileage to the litre.
How the the Auto boxes in them, as good as the 80s.
Anything really that any one knows would be great.
cheers

John, john, John, we don't hear from yhou for ages and then you flood us with questions - as always it's great to hear from you and hope all iss well with the family.

On to your questions....

Are there any common issues with the 100 series that have come to light from owners.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] Main problems I've come across are things like issues with the motors on the steering column, problems with the active height control (mainly down to poor servicing).
Does the suspension give problems with its level correction and it not having solid axels like the 80.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] See above. If the truck does have active height it does need to be looked after properly - I've a truck in the workshop that has had brake fluid and I'm guessing also some windscreen washer put in with the hydraulic oil resulting in =A3650 on replacement accumulators.
Having said that, when it works, it's pretty cool.
Whats the windows like in cold weather.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] Fine
How are the diesel engines and the sensors for the ABS and other things like AC, CC etc.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] Generally most of the issues in these areas on the 80s have been resolved on the 100s
Can the 100 series take the same weight.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] Yes
Does it perform better at corners and exceleration.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] Yes - the TD has around 205BHP as opposed to an 80s 160BHP and the engine is more responsive
What about mileage to the litre.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] There is a little improvement with the 100, but not really much.
How the the Auto boxes in them, as good as the 80s.
[Julian A.R. Voelcker] The early 100s have the same AT as the 80, but with a big oil cooler so lless problems

Thanks Julian and always good to hear from you.
The little one keeps me fairly busy and of course Im now 11 months trouble
free with the cruiser so have not had to pester you all so much.
The questions usually come in quick suggession when I need to know
information, so some things have not changed..
Have been trying to get bits for the cruiser but its difficult second hand.
I like to dream about owning the 100 but then I dont know what the
difference would be to justify the expense.
Shortly hope to buy Synth oil for the cruiser to last about 4 or 5yrs. But
still looking at the 100 series.
Have you changed yours yet.
cheers

Hi John,
I'm glad your cruiser is going well, you could do with some good luck.
What second hand bits do you need? I have a chap near me that breaks
80s pretty well full time so can get most stuff - hit me off list with
your shopping list and see what I can find for you.
No, I've not got a 100 yet, blown too much moneyh moving house, setting
up the workshop and new business, etc, but should be on the cards for
next year.
