70 series gearbox woes.

Martin,
I have survived far too many years enjoying the fishy sniff of
gearbox oil with no detriment to my brain other than now going
slightly gaga with age (as my grandchildren will verify).
I have extended the breathers on my axles but never bothered with the
gearbox and transfer as even the fords I used to regularly traverse
were not that deep; and anyway, I think the bow wave effect that one
gets fording would keep the level lower under the centre of the
truck. But I agree that it would be worth doing if I were so minded.
I used 6mm goodyear fuel hose and terminated both up by the fuse box
inside the LHS wing, each being finished off with a small push-in
type in-line fuel filter with a clear plastic casing, the sort you
get in say a lawn mower. In 4 years they have never discoloured or
become damp with all those noxious corrosive gases that someone has
told you about. In fact I might be partial to the odd easily accessed
fishy sniff now I come to think of it !
Just get on with it and stop worrying about gear oil fumes.
Routing-in the pipes is easy and soon done.
Cheers
Jon
