Hi Guys
(IM BACK) FEEEEEEL LIKE THE BIG GUY SAYING THAT. WELL PAIN IN THE ARSE, ASK
ALL THE QUESTIONS, WREAK YOUR HEAD IS BACK SORRY.
While on my trip, a few things to point out.
The starter didn't even make a wrong sound all the time I was there.
The windows worked really well even the one that wont work here, must be a
heat thing, now I know im stuck with it for life living in this summerless
country, arrived back to a lot of rain and cold weather.
My e-mails all of them nearly 600 are coming in wrong, in alphabetical order
and not date so its really hard to made sense of them at all, think ill need
help to change the settings.
There you go only back and looking for help (what a bum).
The lucas power steering fluid that I have been using has only made the
leaking worse rather than better, so i reakon ill need a seal kit or what
ever, so again what do I do, where do I get the bits please.
The idle set at 800 plus since before I left has made no difference in the
vibration of the engine at all, so I now know its not that but some thing
else, as usual I have thought a lot about this and as usual have come up
with nothing (cruiser tech brain dead head syndrom) see what I mean.
I fused the (burnt) the cig splitter unit I bought and now need another one
but dont know why this one burnt out (melted).
I was really amazed at how many speed cameras there are on your roads guys,
what a pain it must be for you lot in the UK.
Next week will be the start of the transformation of my cruiser, getting
the springs and shocks fitted and getting the bigger wheels and tyres sent
over from the UK really cant wait, really sad is'ent it on my part.
Hey Gareth I am interested in how your exhaust works out too, and the sound
but I reakon ill have to listen to it to know.
While I was in the UK I looked at all the cruisers just in case it said Elco
on the side or something, so now why dont we think of a nice sticker for
the club/forum, just an idea.
Hope your meet goes well where ever it is and when ever it is, but lets know
just in case.

Morning John,
Welcome back, it's been quiet without you ;-)
If the emails are being listed in a columns display - click the title bar of
the date column - this should order by date, click again and it will reverse
the order.
The first thing you need to do is identify where the leak is - is it the pump,
is pipework - it may just be a loose hose with a connection that needs
tightening.
For parts do the usual, try Milners, Jap Parts, and then failing that try your
local dealer. Alternatively, talk to some local agricultural/hydraulic
companies - they might be able to diagnose and resolve the problem.
The 1HD-T engines are pretty smooth, so a lot of vibration could be a problem.
Any chance you could meet up with Mick to do a side by side comparison?
It could be worn engine mounts, but that is very rare or it could be a
knackered Harmonic Balancer on the end of the crank, I think Roman had issues
with that, search the 80s list archives for more info. If it is that you need
to replace it ASAP.
What did you have plugged into it? I'm personally not a fan of these splitters
or using cigarette lighter sockets for power and they lead to a lot of clutter
in the front. Why not get another wired in? This is something that you could
do with a little help from your friends (I'm about to put one in mine for my
fridge in the boot).
I have considered this - would anyone want one if I got some made up? How big
should they be?
Thanks. Take up has been a little slow, but I guess many folks are away.

Hi Julian
Thanks for your reply.
I had a scanner and a cooler plugged in, thats all when it melted, I was
happy to find it was only that because when your doing 80mph and you get
this smell of burning plastic or rubber you always think the worst, well at
least I do.
Did that with the e-mails only this morning after I stayed up a while last
night trying to make sense of it all, what a prat I now feel normal really
for me when it comes to things like that, thanks.
I will have a look at the steering sometime this week but as usual its
raining like hell, so glad to be back NOT NOT NOT will soon need my anti
depression tablets again.
The engine only does this when put into gear and foot on brake, like
reversing, in heavy traffic, getting into or out of a parking space, really
times when the cruiser wants to go faster than you want it to, remember I
have an auto box. Could it have something to do with the fuel pump, although
if it was I think I would have issues at other times. Could it have
something to do with compression or vacume. As usual send me your thoughts to
confuse me for a while
A sticker would be nice, one about 6 inches by 4 with the logo (ELCO) and
its full name and a few bright colours and well it would have to carry a
picture of some cruisers or one cruiser. I would buy one or three if it came
down to a few euro.

Hi John,
It sounds like the engine is fine, since the problem only comes in when in gear
- do the revs drop much when you put it into drive but have your foot on the
brakes?
If your tickover is normally around 850 in neutral it should only drop to
around 800 when in gear and held by the brakes.

Hi Julian
No it drops to about 400 and thats when it vibrates a lot, and I do mean a
lot, you would swear that the small shift knob was going to brake off it can
be so intense. Its funny because when I was confortable with the revs at
about the 500 mark it did not vibrate at all only every few months, say
about 6 or even 8.
It would vibrate for a few weeks and then go back all on its own to normal
running again, maybe this will do the same in a while but it would be nice
to know what the hell causes it.
