Hi everyone, new here & about to attempt my first transfer case rebuild.

What happened was my idling shaft came out during a trip and the synchros kept spinning which ground a hole in the bottom of the back case.

So I've split her from the 5th gear

Cleaned up the extra casing I happened to have, luckily from picking up a second box w transfer case and keeping it in the shed20161106_182401.jpg

Cleaned and sorted out some spares 20161106_175512.jpg

Found an original rebuild kit, still sealed (had to find a couple of new thrust washers which you can see have got a little weathered over 20 years)

Got photos of the little bearings and bits and pieces, made a cardboard 'bolt map' for the exterior and thought I had everything going pretty well

And this is when I got a little frustrated...

The existing bearings were aftermarket and the instructions I have do not mention any of the specific bearing numbers and they are so similar to each other it's near impossible to tell which will go where and I don't want to screw it up!

I managed to fit the easy to pick seals back in to the case but that's as far as I can go at the moment and I'm very keen to jump back in to it right away.

Here are my bearings with the non corresponding numbers...

Has anyone rebuilt one before?
Any directions or help finding a detailed step by step guide would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Tim.

yikes. Will be interesting to watch this being rebuilt :)
I'll see if I can dig out the manual.

bloody eck, look at all those bits! bon courage with that sir!

Cheers mate, I think I'll need all of the courage I can get... Though once it's done I should be able to make a great guide for everyone else. Apparently these were made to be rebuilt in the back of the truck while on the move :tearsofjoy:
