2[SUP]nd[/SUP] post; General KDJ95 questions and some general ranting …

This thread was written yesterday evening not knowing that as a newbie, I am unable to post pictures until I’ve reached 15 posts or so.
Does this count … ||||| - 5 Upright posts. ||||||||/ - 8 more upright posts and one leaning over. That leaves one more to post; how about this broken one? \
Hi folks. As mentioned in my first post I think I’m secretly starting to enjoy working on the truck. However as I’m doing stuff, several questions are forming, so in no particular order;
Can someone please explain or point me in the right direction re bolt thread sizes/pitches on the KDJ95? I’m sure most are metric but brake fittings seem to be odd!
Can someone please tell me where I can buy/obtain the equivalent of a Haynes workshop manual with exploded diagrams and does anyone know where I can obtain the same for the D4D engine please?
My truck recently failed its Contrôle Technique (French MOT) on loads of things which I knew about because of the standard rotten rear light problem. Interestingly we have 2 months exactly to get the car to pass on the things it failed on; if the truck does not pass in that time, we have to apply to have the car re-registered and all the agro and cost that would entail!
On the way to the CT (MOT) there was a change in the car, nothing too much but I noticed it. The tester showed me this bit which had broken in half!

Can someone please tell me what it is and whether it’s a Toyota only part? It links or used to link the rear differential to a cross member on the frame/chassis.
Please note the newly dismantled, cleaned and now working diff breather. I will replace the breathers with the Nissan ones as advised on here in the future as it seems like a good move.

To be honest, getting under the truck has been and still is a bit of a struggle. Then trying to wrench rusted nuts undone is virtually impossible! I’d had enough just on doing the brakes so have bought an Ingersoll Rand Hammerhead impact wrench. Folks, if you have compressed air it’s a fantastic bit of kit and beautifully made … I don’t work for IR by the way.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed that WD40 cans seem to run out of puff long B4 they’re empty? It’s happened too many times now so I decided to bite the bullet and switch to Würth, opened an account and have been very pleasantly surprised so far. Their spray nozzles are simple and a joy to use; who hasn’t tried inserting the little red tube into a WD40 can, (when it was still spraying that is!), finding it bloody difficult or impossible only for the tube to keep coming out? Queue one of those grumpy angry smiley face thingies! Wurth’s 500 ml brake cleaner (thought to be the best in the industry I believe) is €3.67 inc. VAT! I’ve been paying €5-6 per can here for 400 ml of inferior products.
This little lot cost me €128 and they are really, really good products. The thread lock is €20 + VAT on its own! I just got fed up with paying too much money for unexceptional products.

No, I do not work for Würth either!

That’s it for now. I’ll add to the post later but I need to identify and order that part please, so if anyone is still awake after reading this I’d be grateful for its identification. Then I would be interested in your mind reading skills! The part not pictured is a round bit of metal bar with a rubber joint housed in metal at each end! I hope this makes sense.
Kind regards
Cameron

I have pressurised pump bottles for brake cleaner/penetrating fluid, and buy in bulk. A mix of acetone and DexronII works fairly well for the latter.

All the bolts are metric. M6 and M8 are usually normal thread but M10 and above can be fine pitch thread. Brake fitting, if they are the same as the 80 series, are M10 with 1mm thread pitch.

Upper Control Arm I have a pair listed on ebay at the moment and may even chuck in new poly bushes (If I can find them ((The Bushes that is)))

Check out here for a workshop manual. the individual sections are listed down the right hand side.

Hi Chris

Thank you for your reply. Can you please send me a link to the parts on eBay that you mention?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Doodle. Thanks for the info. That's the way I'm going to go. I've always bought stuff in bulk historically and have about 25 litres of brake cleaner in various parts of the UK. I just need to get it couriered over with other stuff.

Cameron

Hi Steve. thanks for the info. Mine passed two years ago without any changes but now of course they want the lights to work! I've ordered everything from Milners & Tough Trax today so fingers crossed. Regards. Cameron

Are you saying the lights either side of the door have to work (like they should have done in the first place & the bumper lights should have been extra) with indicators and stuff? My CT is due in September :(

Hi Steve
I'm not exactly sure what you mean re your lights, but I'm sure your vehicle is fine if everything is working as it should and it’s had a CT before. The problem with mine is virtually nothing was working light wise and hadn't for a very long time! It’s been CTd before and they’re not asking me to change anything other than make the stuff work!
Hope this helps.

Thank you Chris. How very perceptive of you! Mine is a 2001 KDJ95 so providing these will fit without modification and too much swearing you've got a deal. The other one is OK but there’s no harm in having a spare. If you can find the bushes so much the better. I’ll have the stuff sent to Brighton and my wife will bring them out when she returns.
Do you want me to bid and let the auction run its course or did you have something else in mind?
Thanks for the info on diagrams etc. I just love the evidence (finger prints) all over the pages! Someone kindly went to a lot of trouble.
Regards
Cameron

Great, I though some new French rule had arrived!
cheers

One tip for the Milners rear bumper lights, the rear of the lights have the wires going in various holes and the metalwork is the cheap tinny stuff. Spray the metal with a rattle can of paint just to get it sealed and then use a silicon sealant to stop water getting down past the wires into the fitting. Should help them to last a bit longer.

Hi Trevor
Thanks for that conformation info. I read somewhere on this forum that they don't fit very well either. I've gone for the originals from Rough Trax and will be sealing them from the elements using a cunning plan yet to be devised! Also you said in a previous reply that I can do with just some nuts rather than the metal bumper liner thing. I'll post some B4, during and after pics of the job when I'm allowed to.
Regards
Cameron

Hi folks

Can someone please tell me which branch Simon Holton works at or let me have his contact details?

I have received two large boxes of parts ordered from Rough Trax and all is present and correct so happy so far.

Thank you to whomever recommended them to me.

Time to get dirty again!
