A lake land jaunt for a Colorado and the 120 twins! belonging to Gary and Andrew.
Unfortunately the 110 landrover couldn’t join us at last minute, due to the drivers wife falling ill. She seems to be recovering well thank goodness.

The group assembles at Tebay and air-down the tyres before heading to the first lane of day.

Climbing up the first lane, a lot of repair work has been done recently, so its not tricky anymore. Low cloud meant no views…

no i was being a retard with photo links, think its fixed now...:shifty:

Fantastic photos.

Good laning.

Didn't load at first for some reason, but a couple of "refreshes" and they were all present and correct.

Gra.

That looks like it was fun. Oh - wait - it WAS fun :icon-cool:

I'll get my butt into gear and get some pics and vids up tonight ...

But I'm not terribly impressed with BFG ATs 'legendary' sidewall strength - almost new tyre ruined beyond redemption on a little bump. Suspect the Cooper STTs would have been OK :?

And the alignment is whacko, so that'll need sorting too :|

When I first looked it just said coming, hence the "Tease" BTW cracking pics there.

Hi Chas, i wrote the post in MS word first, but linked the photos wrongly, but had already pasted result into a new post... so i removed the text and bad links and put "just coming" etc whilst i fixed it since i didnt think i could delete the whole post..

some video clips :icon-biggrin:
but i cant seem to get anywhere using the embedded youtube function on here?

EDIT - now embedded! many thanks for tips Steven

Great trip report and pics Andy!

Looks like you guys had an awesome time. :icon-cool:

Gary, you can send tyres off and have side walls professionally repaired.

IIRC it cost me about £20.

I just went to my local tyre place and left it with them, 2 days later the tyre was back ready for me to collect. :icon-wink:

Cheers Ben I'll go find out. As an aside - I have GOT to find the source of that squeak!!!! Driving me batty

Thanks Ben - it was inspired by some of your trips.
Glad we did that dead-end lane by the lake, which you noted I hadn't driven before
it was challenging but not damaging on trucks

we didn't do all the lanes I planned to - so plenty more for another trip next year :icon-cool:

pretty sure that squeak is the upper control arm bushes Gary. you can pull the bolt easily enough, but not sure if squeak would be where bolt goes through the bushes or not.

Glad you did that lane Andy, its one of my favourites.

I know a lot of people might give it a miss, seen as its now a dead end lane thanks to NERC, but i love it. :icon-biggrin:

great report, and props for taking the 120's up parkamoor! no way would I take mine up there! I've driven it in my SJ, and my pajero though.

Couple of questions for the 120 drivers:
I'm reluctant to take mine up anything too rough, mainly due to the rear bumper that looks vulnerable to me. It looks like your bumpers are stock, so did you have any problems??
Also, have you got sliders, or standard side steps? If standard, how did they cope (re ramp over)

Cheers Ian

Been up that lane 3 times now - key is to take it fairly steady and watch the drop offs. Both 120s are lifted - and mine has a 40mm body lift and another 30mm at the back when I pump up the air springs. But I did trash a sidestep here once so now have sliders. Andrew T's 120 has standard steps and got a little scrape I think.

Ian,

My truck has an OME 40mm lift, it has the mid weight springs front and back and the sports nitrocharger shocks

I do indeed have still got my standard side steps fitted, which Andy Cook is determined to see knocked off.

But to be fair the worst scrape was on Sadgill farm when I caught a boulder going through the chicane at the start of the hill

I reckon I maybe had about four gentle scrapes but no real damage

I would recommend a proper front bash plate though, mine is a freeways lattitude one (8mm alloy) and I think it got scraped less than half a dozen times.

The biggest damage is to the paint work from the bushes and trees.

The back bumper is not an issue it is pretty high, I have only scraped mine once and that was in yorkshire and my fault for going too fast uphill

I will probably make a set of sliders this winter even just to stop Andy Cook sending me first up trails Ive never been before !

Dont be afraid of using your 120 offroad they are a great truck and much more capable that people realise.

Gary - thought you hadn't been up Parkamoor before the weekend  that was the deadend lane above lake where we met lads in discovery on our way down.
youre probably thinking of Sadgill or gatesgarth

Andrew T - i failed on the side step mission...

I had a good reason for sending you up Sadgill first - after all the sparring the last year or so, about how the 120 is so much better than the 90, and would tow me up the lanes . and i knew what the lane was like first hand :icon-cool:
...i hadn't been up it before my solo trip up the lane may :eusa-snooty:

opps ive swallowed the bait again....

sorry Gary no escape from the sparring...:shifty:

I was very impressed by how our 120's and 90 performed
and as AndrewT said to me on CB on our 5hr ish drive back north, its nice to have a truck that can do the lanes and you can drive back home in comfort in for a long road leg.

Ta. I've no doubt they're capable, I've had loads of 4x4's, my rule of thumb is the cheaper a car is, the better it is off road!

I've just got Crispin's asfir plates, so underbody protection is sorted. I'm really surprised about the back bumper, It looks like It'd catch all the time. Sliders are on my list too, so I've got no excuse really.

And don't forget the 120 is the best looking land cruiser out there :0)

and to risk being accused of anal retentiveness by Gary ! The 120 did 18.3 mpg over the whole weekend.

ps Andy ..... Gone fishing again !!!
