the owner of my local garage has asked me if i can get a series 2 landrover diesel engine not sure if its a 2.0 or 2.25 but a quick googel & it seems that they are rare as rocking horse shit.its got to be a genuine as the owner wants it all original so any ideas?

Will be a three-bearing 2.25 I reckon. Slower than rocking horse shit.....

Nope, I'm wrong.

If it is definitely a S2 (1958-61) then it has the S1 2052cc diesel engine.

S2A (1961-) had the 2.25 diesel

His best chance would be the Series 1 Club/Register, or a rebuild.

thanks lads its a 2.25 & completely destroyed - im told that a swirl pot dropped into a cylinder & the block is holed

It sounds like its had a replacement engine at some point, but at 50 years old no surprise!

If its a series 2 the engine wasnt a 2.25, but it was a common swap. The 2a had the 2.25.

The engine number will date it more exactly, as it could be from a S3.

You see, with all the bad-mouthing Land Rovers get... That thing is 50+years old, and still on the road. The owner needs spares, and even though it's not going to be too easy, he WILL get them.
