Hi All,
We are pleased to announce the merger of LandCruiserClub.net (LCC) and
the European Land Cruiser Owners club (ELCO). As part of the merger
there will be re-branding of the LCC forums as the European Land
Cruiser Owners Club forums which will create a long awaited upgrade to
ELCO's resources.
Only the name of the LCC forums is changing, how things are run and the
general ethos is unchanged. We feel this merger creates a super
resource for Land Cruiser owners to have access to and look forward to
developing a healthy club for all Land Cruiser owners to enjoy.
The ELCO email list will continue to exist but there may be changes to
where and how it is hosted, the options are being investigated. We
intend that as part of this merger the possibilities for some
integration between the forums and email list will be explored and
where possible, links between the two will be made.
Also, we're going to be busy working through the old ELCO posts and
putting them up here as a 'body of knowledge' for people to use when
looking for various bits of information, from technical to travel. We
hope to have this added to over time, and to make it a 'font of
collected wisdom'.
Should you have any queries or comments, please post in the thread
below, or pop a PM to one of the (current) Administrator / Moderator
crew, named below.
We hope this goes a long way to settling any doubts, strengthening the
community, and helps to create a cohesive whole, which will support the
club, and facilitate its growth, eventually allowing it to be the
natural choice for information for Toyota Land Cruiser owners, in the
UK, Europe and world-wide.
Thanks,
The Team

OK, now down to brass tacks....
I've been round and round in circles on this one, but at the end of the day this is a fantastic
opportunity for all of us LC owners so I hope that you won't object to the changes too much.
The new forums are at http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forum/ - please do go along and sign up
with them, there's already a great crowd there so please don't be shy, go along, introduce
yourselves and join in.
I'm going to have to close down this mailing list in the coming weeks, however Rob Thijssen very
kindly setup an ELCO Google Group about a year ago to act as an archive - the game plan is to
move everyone from here over to the Google Group - you will still have the mailing list as well
as daily digests as before, just via a different address. All being well there should be very
little discruption.
We are also making moves to get all the messages going back to the early days back in 2004 into
a forum as an archive that can be searched and I'm also hoping to for us to be able to host
similar message archives from a few other popular mailing lists like 80s Cool or LCML.
Finally, the next ELCO weekend is planned for the weekend after Easter - I can't remember the
exact dates so please check your diary and pencil in the weekend - full details of the weekend
will be posted on a site over the weekend.

Hi Julian et al
I would if I could - I went and visited and registered as your supposed to,
and as you advised, but every single confirmation code that came up was
'incorrect' when I entered each one, and hence was locked out after 6 or 7
tries.... can the moderators just check that their confirmation coding for
the group actually does what it says on the tin? Otherwise 'fraid I won't
ever be visiting.

Hi Chas,
We were hoping to go down that route, but some people have major
objections so we backed down from that.
It is *preferred* that people use their real names - trying to deal with
people with names like thingamabob and Ivegotabigone can be a little
irritating.

I find it irritating too, I like to know I am talking to a *real* person, I
wonder why some people feel the need to hide behind a pseudonym?

As James said, a lot of the use of pseudonyms is historical rather
than a need to hide, although some of it is due to that.
In fact, not so long ago the advice given out by most forums was NOT
to use your own name for security reasons. Apart from the fact that,
as I said before, what do you do if your name has been taken? Many
forums have thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of members and
there's bound to be the odd duplication of names so it's all very well
to say you must use your own name but what if you can't??
PeterBrowning666 or something? Horrible, and if you did do that how do
you then know which Peter Browning you're talking to?

Hi Guys
Just a thought, If we all join the new forum as is the intention ,why not let the ELCO list know our new user name be it our name or our preferred username.
Maybe just so we know each other from the ELCO list.

. . . . Couldn't see the point of using my real name as people won't recognise that!

Cheers

Got a cool Hotmail story? Tell us now

Hi Guys
The way I look upon it really is I don't care what name is used by whom and
I don't give a crap why they use that name.
The reason is theirs and theirs alone.
Its more important that each person have the choice one way or the other.
Its more important that we remember why we all want this, nothing to do with
manes or any other personal differences at all but rather our true love of
Landcruiers be they new, old. battered, or shiny.
As long as I can hopefully keep the aquantances that I have made over the
years whom I have come to trust and admire and make more I will be happy.
cheers

As James said, a lot of the use of pseudonyms is historical rather
than a need to hide, although some of it is due to that.
PeterBrowning666 or something? Horrible, and if you did do that how do
you then know which Peter Browning you're talking to?
Pete
That's what having a sig line is for.

This type of thread is what ELCO got criticised for. I've looked on the
Landcruiser Club site but can't find an answer on how to leave that group, can
someone tell me how please?
