[ADMIN] Message Formats and Trimming

Hi Guys,
Just a couple of admin issues.
Firstly, please try to only send text formatted messages to the list.
Ideally, add the list address to your address book and then check the
setting to send messages in text format only.
Secondly, when replying to messages, many mail programs will
automatically quote the whole of the messages you are replying to -
please either disable this option in the program options or manually
delete the copy within your message to the list - you should only ever
quote parts of a message that you are commenting on.
Many thanks and happy posting.

Julian,
1. How do I achieve this plane text?
2. I do not know whether I am using plain text or not.
3. Will this affect emails that I send to other people because I am not the
only person to use this e-mail in my house hold?

At the top of you, for example, microsoft outlook (email) you have a
row of icons, the HTML one has a couple of colours in the icon, the
PLAIN text has just an icon with no colours.
If you click on this then if you choose this (default) the text will
probably be something like Times Roman, which you can obviously change.
Hope this helps

Hi Anthony,
You are using Outlook - add the list address as a contact and then right mouse
click on the email address on the contact form - you should see 'Send Options'
on the menu - tick the box that says 'I want to specify the .....' And then
make sure that MIME and Plain Text are ticked.
If you were using Outlook Express, you again add the ELCO list address as a
contact in your address book and then tick the option to 'Send E-mail in plain
text only'.
If you are using another mail package, check out:
http://www.expita.com/nomime.html
Most times you are, but if you reply to a message from others that is in HTML
format your reply ends up being html formatted.
No, by setting the options just for the email address it should only affect
traffic to the list.
Having said that, using text only saves bandwidth so if on a slow connection
it may be worth setting it for all addresses via the main email program
options.
The key thing is to also strip out the messages that you are replying to.

Hi Alistair, good to see that you are still lurking around.
Yes, as you noticed, Renate failed on two counts - one using HTML
format and two quoting the whole of the message that she was replying
to that also included my original message.
A virtual slap is on it's way over to her!

Thank you Julian and others,
He lesson on today's IT has been absorbed I think! Question. I set my
e-mails to spell check in English UK but I can not make this a default
setting when replying to people on this list and 80'scool, it may well
happen at other times but I notice it here. I have to over write to change
what seems to be the default in replying from English US to English UK.
This is a pain. What I have noticed generally from people at large is that
they carry on using there computers as they were originally set up and I
think that this is spelling in American. I have a hunch that if some one
writes to me in American then the default setting goes to American no matter
what I have pre ordained, is this so? Sorry for rambling on a bit to
explain what may seem strait forward.

Okay! okay! I'm in the middle of a SERIOUS move to new premises
(work!). I would prefer it if all corres directed at me was sent to me
personally, okay?
Anyway its not a FAIL, its an oversight!! FAIL is when exams go
pear-shaped, or cars go Bang!
And another thing, I'm out of range for a few days as from tomorrow
because of the moves - PCs will be "decomissioned" sounds better than
'turned off' doesn't it? , but there you have it, Corporate Training at
its finest!!! NOT!
