[ADMIN] Modded TLC play day

Hi,
Do you have a reasonably modified TLC and fancy a free play day at one
of the off road centres?
Total Off Road magazine are keen to build up a collection of features
on modified Landcruisers to use over the coming months and are offering
to host a play day at an off road centre for about half a dozen LCs in
return for featuring the vehicle in the mag.
They are keen to feature anything from severe mud pluggers (like Jon
Wildsmith's 80) to fully prepped overlanding LCs (Like Roman's 80).
I guess that they would also be interested in the more unusual like
Steve Ackerman's 40.
So, if you fancy a free play day or a chance to show of your LC, please
drop me a line.
I am guessing the day will be some time in the next month or so and
will be planned to be as convenient a date and location as possible to
suit all involved.

Should be ok for that dates permitting, sounds interesting.
Best Regards,
Jon.

Hi Julian,
If dates fit in then yes I'll be up for it...
All the best,

Depending on dates I'd be up for it but also would like to know what is
meant by modded... Mine is an overlander but understated is the best way to
describe it... Everything that is needed to survive but no unnecessary
frills...

Hi Jeremy and the others,
Thanks for the response so far.
From following the magazine for a while now they tend to features that
get the job done, whether it be a money no object build or something
knocked together Heath Robinson fashion, although the latter seem to be
more popular.
They love LCs (every related article seems to have a para raving about
the reliability of LCs, even the one about a LR with a 4.2 LC engine),
but have very few articles on them. I gather they are also splitting
the mag into two with one dealing more with off roading, mods and
overlanding and then a sister mag more on the bling side of modern
4x4s.
I guess the sort of thing that will catch their eye is more unusual
mods, more home derived, like ingenious drawer systems, or anything
that stands out - I don't think an 80 with just an OME lift would
qualify.
At the moment they want to get about half a dozen vehicles to give them
a few month's coverage - when it comes to the crunch as to the ones to
be included it will be down to them.
Anyway, that is my take on it, I have asked Tim Gibson, the deputy
editor to provide some more info on it.

Hi Mark,
No all flavours to be considered - have you done much to it?

On a purely selfish note do we actually want to promote the virtues of
Landcruisers to all and sundry??
If there's too much publicity about how brilliant / reliable / superb
they are then that will only serve to push the prices up / make LC's
harder to find for us that have known their virtues for a long time.
We'll end up in ludicrous landrover land where a ropey, falling to bits
20 odd year old LR90 sells for ?5k+
Slightly tongue in cheek, but not totally!

But Pete, think what an investment you'd be driving around in! And classic car insurance tends to be cheaper too...

The only thing I've done is try to keep it as original as it was the day it
got off the boat. I havn't spared expense within reason, and used it day in
and day out. It looks ok to me but then i'm biased
