Hi Brendan,
OK, not 100% sure about what you are asking.
I suppose I could have a button on the web system to enable you to forward a
particular message or thread to your email account.
*** that would work
Obviously you will be able to reply to messages on the web via the web
*** that will do
, but it would be tricky replying message you have seen on the web via email
because you would need to maintain the subject line a some header info in
order to maintain the threading.
*** no need
It would also be tricky to reply to messages that you have forwarded to
yourself, although could work around that.
*** no need
How about the idea of being able to subscribe to a particular thread? If
you see a few messages in a new thread that is of interest, you could press
a button and then receive copies of all the emails to date in the thread and
also all future emails in that thread.
*** sounds good
A couple of things I forgot to mention for the web version - you will be
able to get notifications via email if someone replies to a message you have
posted - the notification will basically say that a reply has been posted
and provide a link to go and view it.
*** very nice
You would also have an option to track a thread when you would get an email
notification every time a new message is posted to a chosen thread.
Would that do?
** Yep

Julian,
How much space are you going to assign for uploadable files? Will you
use disk space on your own server?
Please, please, please: maybe you have access to intellignet search
facilities. That would be realy great and help us avoid a lot of lost
bandwidth.
Anther thing I find useful is being able to edit or delete one's post.
Saves you red face when you have second thoughts (which is impossible
with email only :)

Hi Roman,
I no longer have my own server but host the site with a friend on a pro
rata basis, so no cost at the moment.
Initially I will allocate a gig or two for the files - if the new
product I am working on takes off then I will look into getting my own
server again where space will be less of an issue.
It will be as intelligent as the user!! In reality it will provide a
full text/english query style search.
I already have the facility to edit existing posts on the web and have
considered an option to 'withdraw/delete' a post - an email could be
sent out to people notifying them that a particular message has been
withdrawn and thus to ignore it.

A fully contextual search engine? With proximity search, "include
word" & "exclude word" parameters and all? Fantastic!

Hi
Currently in the US laughing at the locals slipping around on bad tyres in
their SUVs. Been filming over here and we had a Ford Expedition as a hire
car. The inadequacies of this car need to be discussed over a few beers...
In the last 2 days I've had 90 emails from the elco sight and being a simple
man with a Mac I only have the one email account which at home runs off
Bband. But here it is modem or at ridiculous expense, wireless or ethernet.
I for one would welcome a web forum rather than email for the reasons
alluded to above. This is a great resource for info etc etc but the number
of anodyne messages in the last couple of days that are of less relevance to
me has been amazing. I suppose I could open a separate account and leave
that for ELCO and others but I cherish simplicity in my life.
My response may also be tarnished by the current state of getting in and out
of the US. But all in all the website for me, and a vote of thanks to those
doing the hard work.
Also I'm up for the set of manuals but have neither the energy or jet-lagged
brain to be clear about what I want as for the last 10 days I have been back
and forward from UK to US and on both sides of US. I'd rather drive...maybve
someone can help me.
Bye y'all
Jeremy

90 emails; I know it seems a pain but ......I use a number of other
lists similar to this. Some have much higher membership, all have web
and email access. By and large email is easier and faster especially
when you have slow Internet access. It's true sometimes they get very
busy but equally they get very quiet too.
Email is easier and quicker if you stick to text only and do not allow
html, images, attachments etc. Whatever you do it will either not be
perfect or not the preference for some because of their email client,
their connection or IT skills.
Why not use a list on Yahoo?
Then you can choose to access via web, html email or plain text.
Attachments or pictures can be loaded and distributed as a link and you
even get a calendar for events. Or if Julian wants he can create his own
but that must be because he wants to out of interest not pressured by us
wanting perfection. Being in IT I can assure you a professional site is
not something you can knock up in a spare evening it is a lot of work.
So Julian you choose which direction you want to take.

Problem with a Yahoo list is you also get adverts (more bandwidth)
unless you pay to have them removed.
You also get a lot of spam too, unscrupulous spammers (is there any
other kind?) join Yahoo lists and "harvest" the email addresses.

Have you read Yahoo's privacy policy? It will make your hair stand on end!
Besides, yahoo has too many users to care for improving their service.
It remains just as usless as it was five years ago.

Well that's one view.
I find it absolutley fine for a free service, especially if accepting
text only email. Sure there's ads and sure you get some spam in the
forums but most administraters filter the first few posts from users to
eliminate a lot. Frankly I haven't had much spam from the lists or maybe
my ISP filters?
