Just a thought but instead of using Wolf boxes in the bottom layer of a
drawer system, try using Gomo boxes. Slightly less bulk, slightly lower and
you can use them without lids and cut a piece of suitable marine ply to go
over the top of a home made frame. Frogs actually sell a drawer system based
on Gomos and a frame but you could make something up quite easily. The boxes
furthest away from the tailgate and up against the rear seat could contain
spares/tools and at least one box at the front could have stuff for a quick
brew. I can't say enough how imp[ortant it is to be able to make a quick
cuppa without having to shift loads of gear, when you stop to look at the
landscape or when you want to get ready to get out of sand, mud etc etc.
I'm looking into the Gomo boxes/frame for myself - can't do at the moment as
money is tight but would be interested to know what you plan. The main thing
that puts me off the African Outback drawers is the sheer weight before they
are even loaded...
HDJ81 with usual suspects and many miles in north africa under its various
belts...

They are from SA and you'll find them in the equipment section at Footloose
or at Frogs. Dimensions 31.5cm (W) x 44cm (L) x 21cm (H) I think. A low lid
wolf box is 40cm (W) x 60cm (L) x 24cm (H) and a high lid wolf box is 34cm
high...
I'd be very interested to hear about this composite stuff as I'd like to
avoid the weight of marine ply...
Gomo and Wolf boxes from many of the usual suppliers.
Point taken!
