Aircon Discussion

That must have been a while back. R12 has been banned for at least 20 years if not more and replaced by R134A which is a drop in replacement. £125 for the gas? I'm glad I know a good old school refrigeration engineer!

R134a is not a drop in replacement gas, RS24 is the correct replacement.

is it worth the "aircon" part of this thread being moved to the 80s section? some good info here and it would never be found in a search.

It seems you are right here Dave, although r134a is a replacement it seems it can require some parts on older systems to be changed. However, it is a replacement. It's looking a bit like Betamax and VHS, as DuPont seem to have won the race and promoted r134a which gave everyone involved more business.

This article opened my eyes to the refrigerant you mention.

Whereas articles like this seem to miss it out entirely.

Perhaps this is a date issue, 134a preceding RS24 for example, in which case it may be that I am running on older info in my brain cell.

My local Toyota will do the regas for £49 so the 80 will be going there. No point in saving a few quid. If Toyota cock it up they won't quibble.

There is back order on the pumps. Wonder why that is :icon-biggrin:.
