I tried to stop the alarm which went off for no obvious reason and found the fob battery was flat.So i tried disconnecting the negative terminal of the left front battery to no avail and so on to the other battery then it stopped. After replacing the fob battery and trying to reprogrammed the fob the car wont start and the fob is not unlocking the doors!
I bought the car on Friday in High wycombe and drove it up to Inverness with no issue at all!
it sounds like an immobiliser issue but I don’t know what to do next!
i intend to export the car to zim next year when i retire!
there is no owners handbook available from seller or anywhere I have looked
i am new member with huge interest in classic cars but not car alarms!!!
any help much appreciated

Usually have to let the car sit with the ignition on for 6 minutes if the battery has been disconnected before the immobiliser logic will allow the car to start. Check if the security light is still on with the key in the ignition - that's a clue the immobilizer is active. Leave the ignition on for 6 minutes and security light should go out.

It is a hdj100 of 2001 automatic transmission
is it possible to bypass or totally remove the immobiliser system as I now expect problems when in Zimbabwe will be very difficult to resolve!!!Im pessimistic!!!

It's possible if you can edit the flash memory in the ecu, but iirc it's a surface mount chip and it has to be removed from the board to reprogram it so a fairly specialist job.

That’s best done at this moment if I buy a used ECU and get that sorted as you suggest…sounds like good long term fix!
I have removed both batteries for recharge as one was definitely flat!! So Ill try all tomorrow as suggested..for now need to get it started and running..
many thanks and I stay in touch

Is it definitely still the factory alarm? My 80 had an aftermarket one fitted that was a massive PITA - I had it all stripped out, but it was a massive job as it was wired into pretty much everything, black wires everywhere - including the windows, sun roof, etc. Definitely worth doing, if you're in any doubt, but be prepared for a big bill from the auto electricians.

I have just got the car started!!Yes its factory alarm! What do you think of idea of getting an ECU to get the alarm/immobiliser removed then replace the current ECU????
BUT..all the lights for AC etc on dash not working just the air fan is working, height control,PWR/2nd etc not responding at all! Could this be a fuse issue…I don’t have an owners handbook/manual and cant see it on eBay or anywhere else!!Seems the whole dash instrument panel is faulty!?
I will certainly not use the remote for now lest I set alarm off again!!!the key is working fine.
I am grateful for your comms on this matter.

My sunroof is stuck closed and when I press button to open it sounds as if trying to open! There is now water leaking over drivers side!Should i try and force sunroof open a sounds as if may be a rust problem?

Unless you have somewhere under cover to work on the sunroof, depending on weather, I would temporarily seal it with mastic/waterproof tape and leave it until you have somewhere.
Could be easy or this sort of job could lead to whole lots more, maybe the whole sunroof coming out. Sorry I cant help, but just be wary, as you have already found out it leaks now.
Incidentally, have you checked the outside of sunroof to see if it's been sealed before, as someone else may have had leakage/non opening problems and now you have disturbed it.

Exactly what I was thinking - guessing it didn't want to move as it was sealed shut. Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure (yes, really) is a good solution to reseal it for now - less messy that mastic or similar.

Bought it for £5k and expecting to fix most things myself for under £3k in next 4-5 months.Runs beautiful only mechanical issue is rear shocks and coils.
I look fwd to the challenges!! I am now planning on sorting the leak and sunroof and the climate control panel switches..good write up on the club forum!!
thanks..Ill keep in touch for advice on forum.Im surprised how difficult it is to get an owners handbook for this LC100!!??

ps I am in Inverness Scotland

If it's in goodcondition underneath, because previous owners have looked after it, make sure it stays that way with any suitable prep/under body protection as you go. Scottish winters/salt are killers, as you probably know up there. That is a challenge in itself !!
Hope that hasn't introduced another item to your list !
Good luck.
