Persomally I would always take an auto LC over a manual, even for trans african trips. The only concern would be if it were to break down, but as long as the sump is well protected they are pretty bullet proof.
On the busy front, the new toy is a welcome distraction and means I can catch up and respond to messages like this whilst sat in fromt of the box with a drink to hand whilst taking a break from setting up a new business, selling a farm, reorganising a trust, managing a house redevelopment project, dealing with a young family, etc, etc.
