Open thread for this year's Overland show at BK

Looks like a few going from the forum. First year for me.

Show runs 25th to 29th May.

Unfortunately it overlaps with Lincomb.

So far, my plan is to go Weds 25th from Harwich on the 23.00 ferry. Coming back, I plan to get the Rotterdam to Hull boat on Sunday evening at 20.30. Hull's pretty close for me but the ferry times going out are rubbish. Hence the two different tickets. That comes in at £344. If I took another day's holiday I could get an early boat and it would be £67 to the Hook. I'm not going to faff around getting to Dover. It's just not a good jumping off point from the North. So, I should get some time on Thurs, all of Friday and Sat, a bit of time on Sunday and then away home.

I need to decide what I am doing, if I go I will be going out of and back in to Hull

II'll be using the tunnel as its so close & convenient for me, not sure if I'll get there for the wed or Thursday yet but usually leave there mid - late am on the Sunday for a teatime / early eve crossing back

Why is this show so great? Website is crap. Toying with the idea

its turned into the biggest show in europe, the thing with it is theres a trade show that you get the bus to from the town, which is quite a smart show, lots of stuff and typical German organisation and then theres the campsite on the edge of town, which is a show in itself with peoples rigs who really have been there and done it and many that havent, but you can spend evenings just wandering the campground checking it all out. Its very relaxed atmosphere and a good eye opener.
not a lot changes at the trade show from year to year so i try and go every few years just to re inspire myself!
its worth a trip just to see the trucks role up in town en mass!

Yeah what he said,

I might not even go to the show as the campsite is an amazing place to wonder around and everyone is happy to chat and show.

Thanks guys will look into it. Is there a better website to look at?

Hello, all of the above is spot on, if you want to a good review try you tube and an article by Andrew StPieire-White on his 4xOverland channel and the item is labelled " Worlds largest 4x4 expo" or close enough to that and you might get it. He joins in the fun although he actually camps on the show ground which us mere mortals don't, and he virtually says exactly what has been said above. It's two shows, the Campground and the trade show, what can't be communicated is the wonderful atmosphere of when like minded folk get together to share their love of over landing . If you go, take your fire basket or whatever you have, I'm no expert only been the once, but I loved it.
best regards, Bill Westley

Stu if you just want to look at the show from your arm chair there are loads of videos on youtube.

The show is outside of Bristol mind and will mean catching a ferry or train!

Rich and I have been discussing this for the last few weeks.

Looks like the swmbo and the 2 boys shall come also, first time we all camp out together!

I reckon we shall arrive Thursday and leave Sunday.

It's fine Rich I looked it is no higher up then Tewkesbury so I should get the nose bleeds.

We have been several times, they have for the last few years moved the campground to a different area, and very good it is to, overland ears porn! There are very frequent free busses up to the show ground, just jump on one, you can go back & forth as much as you like.
wandering around the massive campground is something else, you could spend days just doing that.
its all run with typical German efficiency.....not quite like the AO show.

in 2013 they had to evacuate the entire camp ground due to flooding, they were opening some floodgates to save the town and again I think when it had flooded I enter back & only saw one vehicle left( and it was practically floating), the local authorities had jobs, bulldozers etc pulling people out, just in the nick of time.

see this on you tube , there are many other vids just search ab enter all rad 2013

Oooh, well get you ...

Yep, ferries booked. Roll on May. Is two vehicles actually a convoy?
