Hello everyone,
My few words of introduction, starting with an apology for not posting this
message when I signed up to the group a week ago! That seems to be the speed
at which I accomplish things these days, unfortunately. There are always too
many things to do and far too many distractions for the time available. I'm
sure it wasn't like this when I was a teenager all those years ago (ooh
lots!) always working on cars, tuning engines and suspensions, rushing off
to race meetings and still having plenty of time for socialising etc. Ah
well....
My first Toyota was a series one petrol Hilux pick-up with 4 speed gearbox
etc and I was only the second owner. It was 13 years old with 67000 miles on
the clock when I got it, had never been serviced and had holes rusted
through the footwell. When I drained the oil it took several seconds for the
treacle to ooze into sight and getting the plugs out was a true test of
strength! It was a testament to the design of those plugs that none broke
while I was extracting them - and how the engine ever started with the size
of spark gap was nothing short of a miracle! This truck continued to impress
me for several years and did many miles as everthing from builders lorry to
personal transport until the 'metal mouse' eventually won. By this time I
was a Toyota man through and through!
Since then I have had a 4 door 3L (2.8litre) Hilux import, a 2.5L d4d 4 door
Hilux, a 4-Runner which I still have, and finally an 80 series Landcruiser!
I have yet to get around to any serious off-roading but I'll do it one day -
honest guv! When I become a fully qualified Time-Lord I think.....
I have appeared briefly on a couple of the other Toyota Forums with one or
two questions and I'm sure I will manage to bother you guys from time to
time on this one although mostly I just read what's going on with great
interest. I'll shut up now and let you get on with something more useful....
Best Wishes,
John
