body lift decision - combination koni shocks - ome springs

Hi,
I have decided that I will lift my 80 for 2.5" but I would really prefer
a Koni Heavy Track Raid over OME shocks.
According to their specification they are declared to allow 50 mm lift.
The guys who are selling them claim that it shouldn't be a problem
(usual story ...) - but I'm not sure ... Does anybody have experiences
with such combination ?
Are there any issues going 1cm over the KONI spec range ?
Thanks in advance & regards,
Tomaz

Tomaz,
You only need to worry about the front shocks and only as far as the
shocks don't hit the stops when the front springs are fully
compressed. In other words, make sure that there's ca 1 cm travel left
when the front axle is all the way up.
As for the rear axle, you may need to extend the bump stops to
compensate for longer springs anyway.
Regarding fully extended shock length, I would recommend using axle
straps. Although Koni claim their shocks have sufficient built in
piston stops , it's a simple protection which costs very little to fit
but goes a long way to keep you out of trouble.

Yes and these same peoples do suffer hard breaks, like metal does not
stretch! No donot use chains.

Benoit,
Although you make a valid point about metal not stretching, your
concern about hard breaks is a bit OTT (over the top - i.e. gross
exaggeration). The shock absorber prevents a shock load to the chain,
and even if the chain breaks - so what? Rust may be just as big an
issue.

Oh that Roman are we doomed to dispute ourselfs today? Non that was
just joking you know we French guys love to dispute sujets. No I not
incinerating you are also French! Hi hi hi.
Yes my friend garagist already broke chain and some other extreme
4wheel guys he knows so I only share that experience he made, not
happy was those guys! Some hard bump push up on left side make right
side go push down hard! It was me with little voice say to him maybe
nylon cordes is better and now he not break any cordes. But they
stretch themselfs a lot expecially if wet with water.
So is real experiences an OTT really?. But I must reinforce that these
guys run in some very extreme courses like Berlin Breslau ou
Rainforest Portugal.
