Boi Diesel

Hi Julian
Did a bit of asking around on an Irish 4x4 site and they seem to feel one
can just go into Lidl and pour cooking oil in and away you go.
They tell me that some guys have been running their Surfs on it for years
and no problems.
Yet I have heard that one needs to start the vehicle on Diesel and then run
it on Bio Diesel.
There was also talk about problems with Transit vans that had changed over
to this Bio diesel.
Others say you need a costly conversion to change over to the Bio Diesel.
Yet with the cost of ordinary Diesel going up and up its worth a little time
to find out.
I was also told we cant get Bio Diesel here in that term but can get
Rapoleum.
I cant picture just pouring veg oil in my tank and happy motoring.
So as usual Im confused again.
Did you have any conversion done to your cruiser before you used the Bio.
Do you use pure Bio and nothing else.
Do you use ordinary Diesel to start yours.
What is the stuff you use made of, is it 100% or lower of veg oils.
What is a common rail engine and has the 80 cruiser one of these engines.
Whats the difference between this type of engine and another.
Sorry the questions just keep coming sometimes.
Cheers

John,
Get a look at the 'journey to forever' website. There is lots of
information, and links, about bio-diesel, including the reason that
you should not use veg oil neat.

John,
I am running 100% biodiesel made from re-processed waste vegetable oil
- you can find out a bit more about it from my supplier at
http://www.goodfuels.co.uk.
I didn't need any conversion and run it all the time, unless I get
caught short away from home. I have my car as well as Gilly's V40
running on it quite happily.
The only thing to watch out for is the biodiesel strips out the pipes
of gunk so you might need to change the filter after the first few
hundred miles.
With regards neat veg oil, Jon Wildsmith is the man to talk to, he runs
a lot of it through his truck with any (that I know of) ill effects.
