(brakes) (80)

Hi Guys
Just thinking again about my brakes and just wondered if you would know the
answer to this. Because I have changed from the 15 inch wheel there is now
more room for larger calipers is there not. How do I know what larger
calipers will fit if any. I was just thinking that larger calipers equals
better braking does it not.
Thanks

Hi John,
Yes you would get better braking if you moved to larger calipers and disks -
the LC disks were upgraded around mid '92 to a larger disk and caliper -
what date was yours registered?
Actually send me the VIN and I will be able to tell you if you can upgrade
to the larger disks and calipers.

Hi John,
OK, you car was built in december 1991 - the new larger front disk
brakes came in around August '92.
As far as I can recall all you would need to do is to replace the disks
and the calipers.
It is also worth noting that the calipers changed again in June 95, but
the disks remained the same - these calipers should also just bolt on.

Hi julian thanks for that. How did you find out when it was built, it says
somwhere on my documents that it was a 1992 cruiser. So is it as old as
Renates or does she still hold the record for the oldest 80 on the list.
Cheers

Hi John,
I found out via the EPC software.
Renate's is still older - production date of 6/91.
BTW - on the EPC software front, I have come across a common problem with
the disk duplication which I am working through and will then send you out
some replacement disks.

Hi Roman,
For some reason the data disks that I made weren't being recognised so
they couldn't be installed properly.
I am just trying a couple of other methods for copying them to see if
that resolves the problem.

The reason I am asking is that I've tried a few times to install the
software to run from hard disk rather than CD-ROMS. Although in the
settings there's an option to run it from a HD, it never worked first
time and I had to reinstall it several times until it clicked in. Have
you noticed this?

Hi Roman,
It can be a little temperamental, but I usually get there in the end.
I have the two Euro and two Japanese disks installed here without
problems.

Are these disks available for purchase from Milner? Or main dealer only?

Hi Peter,
I got mine on eBay and are obvious pirate copies of the software that the
dealers use.
I have offered to copy them for list members if they can send me a SAE and
blank CDs, however there were problems with the first batch that I sent
out. I think I have now resolved the issues so will throw the offer out
there again.
In the meantime, I'll send another copy out to John who had a duff copy
and also finally send out Dermott's, who has been waiting a while (sorry!)
The EPC disks cover all European and Japanese Toyota models (including
LCs) upto December 2002. It goes over 3 CDs for just the Euro models or
7CDs including the Japanese ones, although I still haven't found a use for
the last two Japanese ones.

Just to let you know - the two disk dowloaded from Yankee Toys can be

I would be very greatful for a copy! It's like pulling teeth trying to
explain to my local main dealer what part I need; they almost need a
part number from me to be able to find it at all. EPC would be a godsend.
I'll gladly send 7 CD's and an appropriate SAE.
Where to?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Pete
He, he... but when you tell them the part number the'll be amazed.
They just can't believe that a customer may have access to the same
information as dealers, considering it unfair and damaging to their
professional interests. That's why many dealers will tell customers
that FSMs are out of print.

Are these Mac friendly or just PC?
I think I know the answer already but as a Mac user, I'm sure I can find
someone who can work around it...I'll happily send my CDs out though...

Hi Jeremy,
Just PC - real computers for real cars ;-)
They will only ever run on a PC - the program is written in Visual
Basic and as far as I can tell the data is encrypted, so unless you
have access to a PC I would forget it.

I just got myself a Panasonic Toughbook CF-P1 and I think I am going
