Hello Guys
I haven't been on the forum much since i got the 100 series but i thought i'd mention this.
I had brake failure last night coming up to a T junction, the pedal went it seemed all the way down. i discovered later there is a little braking power in the 2nd circuit but it is un assisted so it means you've really got to put a lot of pressure on the pedal( which will be at the bottom of its travel).
Anyway the little booster pump motor does not seem to be operating, this could be a costly repair as all i can see is complete master cylinder assemblies for sale.
Does anyone know if you can get the booster pump motor separately , or better still can you get motor parts or service exchange parts?
cheers

Hello Greg,

I responded to you over on "the other side" :eusa-whistle:. I think someone on this site had the pump motor repaired by an Electrical Specialist and it worked OK thereafter. Its therefore entirely possible to repair them without paying Toyota prices.

I'll have a search but I think you'll find the thread under the '100-Series' somewhere.

Bob.

Thanks Bob
I've stripped the booster out today , and one of the wee terminals on the motor had broken just where it penetrates into the motor , they are eyelets narrowing into thin strips running into the motor to connect to the brush box, they go through a plastic bulkhead.
So I've drilled the 2 holes in the plastic and i soldered two wires onto the terminals coming out of the brush box , it all seems to work fine now.
Oh i put the rotor into the vertical drill and dressed up the comm as it was all grooved.
I think i'll put it together and run it , i'll get another unit from Dalcrue( breakers in perth ) they usually have a couple of cruisers. The motor i get from the breakers i could send away and get reconditioned properly.
Its a really rubbish design, considering the importance of the motor , the terminal strips are way too thin and also the magnet casing doesn't seal properly to the housing, which is probably the issue with most of peoples failures.
When i get the recon one i'm going to try and seal it up better before fitting it ; trouble is it will be 12 years before i know I've improved it!

Regarding the 100 series I've not had that many issues , but i had an issue with the throttle pedal sensor , and now this both of these are cost items if you are in a hurry or not a tech sort of person.
I did like the 80 series where, yes things broke but most things were repairable pretty much at home.( difflock actuator was the only costly repair)

I have a few pics but i'm not really sure how to post them, its just to show the innards for anyone that has issues again.

thanks
greg

Greg, if it's any help, a pal of mine has a works in Brixton rewinding and repairing motors, starters and alternators. It might be worth giving him a call.

Brixton is not far from me Rich, that would be useful info please.

Mike's a good guy. It's worth at least talking to him for any dc motor or alternator work. They collect by courier around the country but also personally around the London/Kent/Sussex areas.
