breathers

Hi Guys
I have extended the axle breathers no problem, what was all the fuss about on my part. I think ill take the engine apart next because im getting so good. Not a hope, question time sorry.
Roman I think you told me that the gear box and the transfere case breathers exit at the dip stick.
I have had a look and there are two pipes going into near the top of the auto box dip stick, would this be the breathers you were talking about. If not were do them come up.
I am still having trouble finding them because im afraid to yank at the wrong pipe under there, you know what i mean, think of your learning days when nearly every move went with a shit statement, like what have I moved now. Thanks

Hey roman
So if thats the case they (the breathers) for the gear box and the transfer
case should be fine where they are because I could only move them a little
higher than what they are at the moment RIGHT. You moved them did you not
and where did you move them to.

RIGHT. As Bosnia Jon has mentioned, the LC is better designed than a
Mondeo for having the most fun with your rubbers (i.e. tyres) on ,
hence the breathers (maybe with the exception of the fuel tank and
diff locker actuator breather pipes) are generally adequate.
I used a small manifold attached near the top of the bulkhead and
connected to it all the breather pipes. From there a single larger
pipe goes up the snorkel and is terminated with a mini fuel filer at
roof height.

Hi Roman
Are the diff locker actuator breathers the same as the diff breathers that I
have done YES.
Your not telling me now that I have to find the fuel tank breather and
extend that.
For the rear diff breather I ran a pipe over the cross member, over the
wheel carrier, and then up under the rear bumper on the inside of the hinge
and then turned it and up the groove of the rear door and up futher then
curved it a little to point down so that water coming down from the roof
would not get in. It sits ther really well and it makes sense, it is now
about half way up the rear door groove. I know others have not done this but
it was easy to do and seems fine.
For the front breather I ran a pipe up to beside the wiper motor, attached a
small fuel filter and angeled it down so again the water cannot travel up it
or in itfrom above. I left a little lenght for travel of the body, again I
think some one of the list told me this ages ago.
So if you think I did something wrong please tell me so I can correct whats
needs doing. While I was buying the gear to do it today the guy showed me a
filter that will let air out and wont let water in even when it is covered
in water . Seems to me anyway a bit unlikely ,waht do you think.

Well. a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

Here's how I've done it: http://www.zen59375.zen.co.uk/public
I've even removed the engine to give you a better view of the parts!
There is a manifold over the rear axle which is connected with a
rubber pipe going between the chassis and bodywork all the way to the
front. There it joins another manifold on the bulkhead.
The rear diff is conected via a piece of nylon coil tubing to make
sure it is long enough when the axle articulates.

ts
If it watertight, won't be ripped of when parts move, is made of
rubber that won''t perish soon and is high enough to prevent water
ingress - it should be just fine.
ed
If it's a one way valve that opens under pressure and closes under
vacuum - it's exactly the OEM Toyota breather valve - it doesn't seem
to be anything special then.

Hey Roman
Yours looks a bit different than mine O Yea thats where the big metal thing
goes. Thanks for taking your engine out just to show me all the bits I needed
but there really was no need. If you like when I come over for the play days
(hopfully) I will have your engine back in in a flash. So am I not covered
with what I have done or do I need to do the breathers for the diff lock
actuators now aswell. ???
The fuel tank breather is that the pipe just under the wheel arch at the
fuel intake. ????
When you talk about axle articulation, how much will it move (travel) cause
now im not sure about leaving enough pipe for the travel (articulation) of
the axle.
When you say water tight there is a small hole at the top of the fuel filter
that I connected to the breather is that alright.???
Roman can you tell me who all the people are in the pics and what cruisers
they own please because so far nobody is biting my request abote sending me
photos of their cruisers and themselves.
Thanks
