Centre diff lock

I think it=92s time I actually got around to doing the mod to be able to lock
the centre diff in high range=85. Before I get a blown CV and end up having to
drive 100 miles home at 10mph in low range!!

To indulge my inherent laziness and save me having to dig around to find it
could someone please tell me the Toy part number for the centre difflock
switch?

A link to the pin 7 mod instructions would be very helpful as well ;-)

Thanks

Pete

Thanks
Which side is the Transmission Control Relay? On the LHD pictures it's on
the left hand outer wall so I presume it's on the passenger side?

You need the newer style button 84725-60040, nearly twice as much as the
old style button (84725-60010) according to my records from the last
enquiry I made for someone (=A358.92 rrp).

Hi Peter,
No, it behind the kick panel on the drivers side.
Also, do you want to do the Pin 7 mod - this still gives you the odd low
range gear changes.
If you remove the control cable on the transfer case you get the same level
of control as you do with the Pin 7 mod, but also the same gearing as you
do in High Range so smoother changes and less revving.
The plug is at the boack of the transfer case at about 1 o'clock - just
disconnect it.

Hi Julian
On the right hand side then? By the accelerator pedal?
I don't know? Do I? I assumed that I did. Why wouldn't I want the normal low
ratio gearchange intervals?

Julian,
Isn't Pin 7 at the other end of the cable that goes to the transfer
case connector?

Hi Peter,
yes.
I find that in low range it holds onto the gears to much so that you end up
continuously revving the engine, and then when it does change up the change
comes in with quite a thud. Where as removing the connector you get the same
smoother gear changes that you get in high range.

Hi Roman,
I guess so, I haven't fully checked the wiring diagram, and can't
remember the sequence when I did it on mine.
One of these days I'll go through the contorions to get at the ECU and
re-enable the Pin 7 so that I can pull the plug on the transfer case.

Oh, OK, I see now. Seems easier anyway just to pull the plug than to prat
around with the ECU.

Julian,
If Pin 7 and TB connector are in the same circuit, one can't affect
gear change any different than the other. I can't recall clearly if
in my LC low range gear changes suffered after disconnecting Pin 7 but
if they did, I think I would notice.

Hi Roman,
I suspect that they are related, but not necessarily linked.
Pin 7 will enable you to control the centre diff via the CDL switch, but
will not affect the gear changes in the auto box.
Removing the connector from the transfer case will give you the same
control with the CDL as the Pin 7 mod, however it also gives you the
same gear changes in Low range as you have in high range. I believe
that the connector also pprovides signals to the gearbox to say that it
is in Low Range and therefore should work on a different changing
pattern.
Personally I hate the gear changes in low range, finding the engine
revving far too much as the gearbox holds onto gears so never use low
range, just relying on the torque in high range for low speed manouvers.

Could someone tell me which plug comes of the top of the transfer case as
there are two when looking up from underneath the car. I want to disable
diff lock in low ration in this way and haven't done so yet and am unsure
which plug it is.
Thanks

Julian,
Well, it IS Monday morning! I forgot my A/T gearbox has no electronic
ECU, so whatever pin is disconnected the shift pattern is not
affected.

Hi Jeremy,
It's the one at one o'clock, but I would need to check the wiring diagrams
so that you can make sure it is the right one.
