Cheap Fuel - Petrol Busters and Bio Fuel

A/C performance

It's hot, and while the A/C in my 80 is working I'm not sure that it's doing as well as it should.
There is definitely gas in the system: I can see fluid in the sight glass, and hear the evaporator hissing away.
The pump is definitely pumping: high pressure pipe is hot, low pressure cooler, sight glass shows fluid flow.
I had a leak fixed and the system regassed about 2 years ago.
And it is definitely cooling air ... but just not as much as I'd like and, more to the point, less effectively than I remember. But that's a very qualitative judgement.
Is there any simple way of measuring its efficiency, and estimating whether or not I need to take some action?

I meant to ask you this before: are you literally pouring vegetable oil into the tank, mixing it up to 3:1 with diesel, and running otherwise unmodified? Or have you got some extra kitin there somewhere?

It's a bit quiet here so here's something to add to your favourites.
http://www.aapetrolbusters.com/
You have to register to use it, but once in the site you can search on
your postcode to find the cheapest fuel in the area.
The other cheap option to consider Bio Fuel. Jon Wildsmith is already
regularly trolleying off to Tesco and Kwicksave to stock up on
vegetable oil, but I also gather that there are one or two garages
around selling the stuff from pumps.
If any of you have any experience of Bio Fuels, know of local suppliers
of cheap, bulk vegi oil, conversions kits, etc, I am sure we would all
benefit if you could post to the list.

80less at the moment - Roll on June!

Hi,
Both our 80's seem quite happy with me literally just pouring it in and
then topping up with pump diesel. I'm told doing the pump part last
makes it mix better so that's what I do but I don't have any hard
evidence to support that.
The only problem you need extra kit for is that veg oil is thicker than
normal diesel so harder for the pump to suck up, especially when cold.
If you do decide to have a go, just add a bit at a time till you're
confident with it.
Best Regards,
Jon.
