Cleaning headlight reflectors

Has anyone attempted to clean the headlight reflectors? (As in shiny
bits around the bulb, and inside of the glass)

One method would be remove bulb, insert paper hanky on end of finger,
and attempt to wipe. But this sounds potentially painful, limited in
scope (my finger isn't that long) and a recipe for things going wrong to
me. So can one disassemble it all without too much grief?

Christopher,
Do not disassemble the headlamp completely, just remove it, take out
the bulb, rinse the shiny surface with isopropyl alcohol, than stir
and drain it. It worked for me quite well.

Could you expand on "just remove it" at all? Or is it really obvious?

Chris,
That's right - I didn't mean "remove the glass". You could do that if
you were really persistent but if your reflectors can't be cleaned by
rinsing inside the housing, they are probably beyond repairs.

Shamme the reflectors aren't glass, otherwise you could use the old
trick of lead from a shotgun cartridge to swill around inside with
detergent which is the old butlers trick for cleaning decanters.

But wouldn't the lead shot from the cartridge damage the glass when you put
it in? :) :)

PS
I bet you were wondering how long it would be before someone said that.

Chas,
I started wondering how you could see such a simple task as difficult, then
I realised what you were getting at - I must be slow!
