ANY IDEAS!!!!!
I was driving along, not fast, engine stopped running and all lights came on dash.
Would it be the diesel pump?????
Had it towed to a garage and tbqh they were a waste of time. They say its got to go off miles to a specialist diesel place, but they have no Idea why!!!! So it back home now.
Engine turns over, just feels like no juice getting through.
Any help would be great

What are the details of the vehicle, tell as much as you can?? Were you driving through the torrential rain we've just had here?

Its a R reg, 3 ltr turbo diesel. Weather was good, just come back off holiday, no trouble at all. There was no warning. It just stalled as I was going along. The recovery people tried to get it going but said fuel is not going to the injectors. Car tried to start when they sprayed easy start in the air in take pipe. Plenty of fuel in tank, even put more in just in case.

When you tried to restart were all the warning lights on the dash off or are some lights staying on? If so, which lights are still on?
The possibilities for fuel not getting to the injectors are relatively few:
- blockage in the fuel pick-up, fuel line or blocked fuel filter (have you been running veg oil lately?)
- Fuel line or fuel pick-up sucking air or maybe broken/snapped above fuel level.
- Injector pump packed up
- Timing gone awry (timing belt snapped or jumped a few teeth)

Any signs of fuel starvation before it stopped? Loss of power, rough idle, difficulty starting?

Did it just stop - no big banging or grinding noises?

Not firing when the easy-start was sprayed in doesn't sound good - it should at least turn over a few times if it's just fuel starvation as the engine should be warm... I wouldn't have thought the recovery guys would have tried to start it if they suspected an engine failure though.

Fuse or relay to the engine stop valve might have gone. This is how a diesel engine stops when you turn the key. There is a little valve which cuts the fuel. The relay can go leaving it in permanent stop mode. You can use a wire from the battery to jump the valve on the injector pump. That will show you if that is the problem. If it's quiet, you can actually hear the relay working when you turn the ignition on and off.

Not uncommon.

Thank you for the replies. When easy start was sprayed in the air inlet the engine did turn over. Cam belt has been checked.
Tomorrow going to check all fuses and then the stop valve.
Then the fuel filter, although I would have expected some sort of starvation first, but there was nothing.

PS not run on veg oil. All lights go out. Strange thing, hazards would not work, but they are working now!! But the garage today may have test all fuses.
So I have an engine that wants to go, but no fuel going through.
Do you know any good diesel Mech in West Sussex?????
They all seem to be fitters these days, can't do anything unless a computer is telling them whats wrong. What happen to the good old fashioned Mechanic??????
