Crazy question of the week!

What can leak from somewhere arouind the sump / engine block area whilst
the car is at rest, that is a clearish / yellowish fluid that smells of
oily fish??
No, I have no idea either!
My LC has been parked on the road for the past 48 hours. I noticed today
a patch of what I took to be oil on the road under mid-sump area. Said
patch is about 8 inches dia. I shimmied under to have a look but could
see nothing obviously leaking, no oil drips or runs anywhere. While I
was under the car I saw one drip fall but only out of the corner of my
eye and I didn't see where from. I waited and waited with my eyes glued
to where I thought the drip came from but nothing else materialised.
I thought I'd try to identify the fluid so fetched a piece of kitchen
roll and dabbed it in the patch - Sniff, fish I thought... nah, can't
be. I took the tissue to my daughter, grabbed her by the scruff of the
neck and said 'sniff!'. She did and said 'yuk.. fish.. cough, cough'.
I have now been looking for ages and can't see anything actually
leaking. It's driving me potty.
So on the longest of long shots............. has anyone else had fish
oil leaking from their LC???? :-[

Pete, going by the colour - yellow / clear - have you checked the brake and clutch fluid levels ?
Windscreen washer fluid ?
Condensate from the air con ?
The smell is not one I have encountered. Sardine a la manifold , or possibly
turbo halibut ?
Start searching and cast your net wide !
Right that's enough pathetic attempts at "humour" its now too late in the day.
Good luck.
Gareth Jones.

Not washer fluid, I use blue stuff with a distinctive smell.
Auto box so no clutch fluid.
Brake fluid level is fine.
Wrong side of car for aircon drain......
I did wonder if a cat had set up lodgings under the bonnet but no..
I'm stumped.

Aircon refidgerant has oil in for lubrication, sometimes dyed for
leak detection, this would stain if leaking slowly.
If not aircon, have you a compressor fitted for on board air,
this will also have oil in.
This may take a bit of trawling.

Hi Pete,
Might the patch of fishy fluid have been there already and the drip out
the corner of your eye a figment of the imagination?
OR what colour is your transmission fluid and does it smell fishy, pull
the dipstick and have a sniff :)
Best Regards,
Jon.

Hi Jon
Pretty sure but not certain it was not there before. It looks pretty
fresh and the LC has been parked in the same spot for the past 48 hours.
I'm fairly sure I really did see the drip. I've put a bowl there now to
catch any further drips.
T Fluid is red and doesn't smell remotely like fish.
Must sort out that pulley soon - haven't forgotten.

It's best to investigate with a big torch and try to trace the path of
the leak. Even if it's on the wrong side for AC, it can travel along
another surface to the lowest point.

Hahaha
Found it... I think.
Was going crazy lying under the truck out in the road staring up into
space, neighbours walking by and just seeing two motionless legs poking
out from underneath; mind you no one bothered to see if I was OK!! :)
Methinks it's coolant.
Decided to look into the engine bay from the top and eventually saw that
one of the bolts holding the heat shield to the inlet manifold was wet.
The said bolt is directly above the puddle. Above the bolt is a tee
where the heater hose tees off and that was slightly damp and crusted.
The coolant does smell a bit like fish - must drain and change it -
meant to do that three months ago!
Sooo, tightened up the hose clamps (teeny bit loose) and we'll see what
tomorow brings.
Thanks all, I'll let you know if that was it.

=> I can only think of the silicone fluid that's in the thermo-clutch of
your cooling fan... Has your truck been sitting on that drive-way for a long
time? Is your fan clutch working strong when engine's hot?
