I had to go to Bristol last night and the cruise control initially
worked for a minute or so on the flat, but going up a hill at 70 mph it
suddenly dropped out, the green "cruise" light flashed 4 times and then
went out completely, and thereafter it refused to work at all: no light,
no nothing.
After an intermediate stop in Taunton at which the ignition was turned
off the "cruise" light came back on again when requested, but the system
dropped out immediately with flashes as before when I tried to use it.
On the way back from Bristol it all worked fine.
I've checked both fuses and for any obvious mechanical damage, and it
all looks fine to me, so I'm hypothesising that maybe it was the cold
which stopped it working initially, and the run up the motorway was
enough to thaw it all out. Perhaps the cable got a bit iced up and
asked too much torque of the system or something.
Has anyone any experience of this, or any advice to offer? For example
should I be lubricating cables, and if so - how?
Sorry, I realise this is a bit less mission-critical and exciting than
new diffs and gearboxes, but all thoughts gratefully received!
