Hi Guys
Just wondering a few things.
Can a cruiser run on heating oil.
Are parts like the altenator, starter injector pump, injectors and other bits interchangeable between the 1HDT and the engine.
cheers

Good to know you are still alive.
You can run a diesel on heating oil, but diesel is "35 second" kerosene, and heating oil is "28 second" ditto. Those numbers measure viscosity, and refer to the time taken for a standard amount of fuel to run out of a glorified funnel called a Redwood Viscometer. What it means is that heating oil is quite a lot lighter than diesel, and does not lubricate as well, so the pump would wear faster. Also the standards for sulphur and other impurities in heating oil are lower, so that might cause long-term problems. I seem to recall that it might burn hotter too, causing damage to the cylinder head, but I can't find any hard facts about that so I may be wrong.
The UK government is concerned enough about people running their cars on it, because it is "only" taxed at 5%, to dye it pale yellow and you are in serious trouble if you are caught running it in a road vehicle.
So I suppose the answer is "yes", but you would be ill-advised to do it over the long term.
I have no idea about interchangeability, sorry.

Yes you can, you need to add engine oil, or two-stroke oil, to it to
lubricate the engine.

Hi John,
Like Chris says, it's good to hear from you.
What exactly are you wanting to interchange and between what engines?
Regards
Julian

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies, yea still alive but dont know about kicking.
I am now on month 11 without any trouble with the cruiser after Toyota fixed
there last big mistake.
Nicely explained Christopher, no clive I wont be going there adding oil etc
but nice to know the information anyway.
Julian, still as happy as a pig in ----- working on the cruisers.
Its just I come across items on ebay from time to time but never know if
they will fit even if they will deliver to me which can be a real hit and
miss as most sellers will only deliver to the UK.
The engine after mine, up to 98 I think.
Always on the look out especially for certain bits.
Im now on about 11,000 miles without an oil change and still going good.
cheers

Hi John,
Yes, still busy working on the cruisers. It's a wee bit chilly in the workshop now, but wouldn't go back to web work in a comfortable office in a million years :)
Most things on the 1HT-T and 1HD-FT (the 24 valve one) are interchangeable, but it is worth checking for each item just in case - if you ping me beforehand I can check on the EPC for you.
Regards
Julian
