Hi Guys
What are the potential problems with over filling the Cv housing with the (get it every where) grease.
I think I saw that you should only fill it 3/4 full or am I losing it again.
cheers

Hi John,
You should aim to fill the knuckle to about 2/3rds full of grease -
3/4s is really the upper limit.
If you have too much in there it will start to force it's way past the
wiper seals on the ball - it will be messy but there shouldn't be any
damage.

Have also heard that if filled to the max when it heats and expands, the
grease can push past the inner axel seal into the diff, contaminating
the oil

Oh that won't hurt any thing. Inless there is dirt in that grease. We
use grease to stuck things like bearings in place, non?

Hi Benoit

If the grease contaminates the Diff oil it may negatively effect the
lubrication and protection properties of the diff oil - I think anyway.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies.
Its just im leaking CV grease again from the same side that Toyota did
twice.
The first time they failed to do it right and it would seem that they did no
better this time round.
It seems only the thick grease leaking and if its only going to come out and
then after a while the level will balance itself out I can live with that.
As long as its not going to do something to the inner seal, I dont really
want to go back to Toyota again because if they got it wrong twice well will
the third time be any better. Geese if this keeps up I could write a book on
the f--- ups of so called mechanics.
Hey Julian you dont do call outs yet do you.
cheers

twice.
There should only be a thin film of grease on the ball. Keep a close eye
on it. If it starts to ooze grey stuff that indicates the diff oil is in
there - then you need to re-do it.
Might be worth checking if they put the knuckle housing seal in properly
- the seal arrangement on the engine side of the housing.
Good luck
Niall
