D4D ATM acting up

I have been experimenting some issues with the atm for the past few weeks.
Usually it changes gear with out any issue but then all of a sudden it wont change from 1st to 2nd without me really releasing the throttle.

I took it to the dealer and they told me it was a code 63, solenoid valve.

what is bothering me about this is that usually solenoids fail or they are working ..... failing once in a while is strange to me.

someone told me to look at the earth connections to the engine and they are fine... I cleaned them up sins I was under there but no change.

I have had the fluid change on a regular basis, last time about 200km ago.

Some think this is an electrical issue but other a mechanical. A local garage that do a lot of atm tell me this is most likely a mechanical issue as the car has been driven jst under 300.000km.

Does anyone here have any experience with this issue ?

Refurbishing the atm is fairly expensive so I would like to look in to other possibilities before I take it to the atm specialist.

Kind Regards

Valgeir

Can you change from 1st to 2nd manually just fine?

I had this problem today and tried to put it in 2nd manually but with no luck, still stayed in 1st.

It does sound like a sticky solenoid then. By releasing the throttle it would decrease the internal trans pressure in the box and maybe that's whats then allowing the trans to shift properly? Thats just my thoughts on it anyway..

It may be a good idea to try and source another trans instead of a refurb? You could probably pick a good used one up for under 300 pounds I would think. Same boxes in 4runners/surf. We have couple people on the forum as well that might be able to give you a price.

How should I talk to, I would like to look in to getting on shipped over to Iceland.
