Can anyone tell me what year the 90's came out with D4D engines, and how I can tell if a truck has a D4D engine?

What performance & efficiency gains does the D4D have over the other 3l td engines?

As far as I know......

KDJ (D4D) came out around 2000 to 2002 (when the 120 took over) with a small face lift, three spoke alloys, front fog lights, D4D badge on the front wings, LCD mileometer.

1KZ-TE with Intercooler normally imports

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 140 ps (102.97 kw) / 3600 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 34.0 kg*m (333.43 N*m) / 2000 rpm

1KZ-TE without Intercooler UK spec

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 130 ps (95.62 kw) / 3600 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 29.5 kg*m (289.30 N*m) / 2000 rpm

1KD-FTV (D4D)

Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 170 ps (125.04 kw) / 3400 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 35.9 kg*m (352.06 N*m) / 1800 to 3400 rpm

1KZ-TE will do around 24-26 Mpg at best
1KD-FTV will do 30 Mpg

But Toyota even in recent models fitted the 1KZ-TE engine to markets where fuel quality maybe in doubt and an simple engine is more desirable than power or economy

I'll be driving through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc... so I might take a look at a couple of 1KZ models then.

Tommo has a D-4D 90 series - and they have a D-4D badge on the front wing next to the indicator repeater.

Cheers
